Pitch in a lovely clearing in the forests of Northumberland in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and European Geopark.

Haltwhistle Club campsite’s setting in a clearing in Bellister Wood makes it the ideal get-away-from-it-all camping destination. The wood, once part of the Bellister Castle Estate, is now managed by the National Trust and is a haven for wildlife and you could find yourself sharing your pitch with rabbits and birds, including woodpeckers.

This 50 pitch site between the Northumberland National Park and North Pennines is surrounded by magnificent walking and cycling country. The Haltwhistle Rings – a series of 22 local walks is one way to take in the local scenery along with Hadrian’s Wall, five miles from the campsite, offers picturesque walking opportunities.

Back at Haltwhistle campsite, the adjacent River Tyne provides fishing for those with the appropriate rod licence.

After a day cycling or walking or enjoying some of the area’s many attractions our secluded campsite among the trees is a peaceful oasis to relax and unwind. The modern facilities include showers and toilets, a laundry and washing up area.

First time we had used this site, arrived late after work on the Friday night, warm friendly welcome from the wardens and easy site to pitch up on. We chose a pitch by the river but all pitches good and site compact without being crowded. Facilities absolutely spotless all the time and wardens constantly working on the site. Loads of info of the area available. Initial exit from the site is very steep (12%) but once past this access to the South Tyne Trail is close by. We cycled to Alston and also Vindolanda Roman Fort, both recommended, Haltwhistle itself also nice town with supermarket if needed. All in all highly recommended and will visit again. One piece of advice would be to avoid the pitches either side of the access to the river, found children constantly running round our pitch and our Motorhome, no harm done but something to be aware of.

Haltwhistle fine only wished we had realised about the open air heated pool earlier! We went into carslile which has plenty of shops (a great time to be spending your money there as the town is still recovering from the floods). We also drove to Silloth which we really enjoyed!!!
