The surrounding area

Our Scarborough Club Site lies just north of the Victorian seaside resort of the same name and is perfectly located for exploring the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast and the North York Moors National Park.

West of the campsite North Riding Forest Park (or Dalby Forest as it is also known) has many waymarked trails for walkers and mountain bikers. You can go orienteering here too. Go Ape! offers tree top adventures with ropes and zip wires or, if you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, enjoy the forest on a Segway.

Head north to Staintondale for the Shire Horse Centre. Learn about the North Yorkshire coast at the Ravenscar Coastal Centre. From here it’s a three-mile beach walk to the pretty fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay. Whitby, ten miles further on, offers the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, Lifeboat Museum and Whitby Abbey. Catch a train to Grosmont, the terminus, for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. This 18-mile heritage line runs across the National Park to Pickering. Jump off at Goathland or Aidensfield for TV's Heartbeat fans.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, aided by glorious weather.

This review is for Scarborough

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, aided by glorious weather. The site is attractive and seems smaller than 300 pitches but still with lots of open spaces. The Scalby Manor pub next door was very handy, with outdoor seating, and dog friendly. Plenty of places to visit nearby- Robin Hood Bay, Whitby, Peasholme Park. The wardens were friendly and very accommodating and the facilities were clean, if somewhat dated.

Moving the bins may seem minor but has gone down like a lead balloon with everyone.

Moving the bins may seem minor but has gone down like a lead balloon with everyone. Charging extra for already expensive newspapers not good. Toilet block 1 below what i expect - 50% of showers not been in operation for over 7 months.Answer use others! Another toilet block seems to be permanently locked-again use another ! I will continue to use Scarboro it is very convenient and overall good but needs sorting. About 5 years ago i remember a photo in toilet bock with the manager winning best in Britain, not anymore.

arrived on site 1.

This review is for Scarborough

arrived on site 1.30pm Friday28th June loads of units waiting to be seen, when it was our turn to book in the warden ask for our membership cards I didn't have mine but my wife did, this was a problem to the warden,so that was a bad start.we are both retired and in our 60s and both have problems with our walking so when I booked (3 months earlier) I requested to be near the water and waste points, the toilets and showers would not be a problem as we both use our own on our caravan.I WAS ask by the warden if we had any preferences on pitches,I replied yes and said can we be within easy access of a tap and waste.we were given 4 choices of pitches, each pitch was sloping each one more than the other. As we were shown the pitches I pointed out to the warden quite a few pitches that were empty and unoccupied, the warden said that they were not available to us,he never said why. After about 1/2 hour I could tell that the warden was getting a bit,(to put it politely,) fed up with us so I chose the best of the 4 and set up.The nearest block to us had a water tap and grey waste, no ladies toilet(good job we used our own) and they were in need of up grading. The chemical waste was over the other side of the site and was not in anyway near to us. In fact I had to use my car to get drinking water, empty grey waste and chemical waste, bins had to be emptied outside of the site so we only done that if we went out of the site.We paid nearly £160 for the pitch, which is fine if you get near to what you need,we didn't, I KNOW this will sound trivial to lots of tourers but if we all pay the same monies for our grass pitches with electric hookup then surly if you have a real need to be close to a tap and waste then I don't think that's to much to ask .We also found out that there were other pitches that we could have had. Thank you all for reading this, if it gets to the review page.Ray&Jen.
