Overview

Camping near York doesn't get much better than Sheriff Hutton.

The historic city of York is just a few miles from our pretty Sheriff Hutton Club campsite and the North York Moors and the coastal towns of Bridlington and Filey are within easy reach.

Our immaculate, well-manicured tree-lined campsite offers a tranquil base from which to explore the local area. It has 90 grass and hardstand pitches and modern facilities including a parent and child wet room with a baby change station, sink, top and tail bowl, toilet and shower. There are also laundry facilities, a small play area in the centre of the site with swings, a slide and climbing section and a small site shop.

The local village of Sheriff Hutton has a post office, two charming pubs, castle ruins and a point to point race course.

With Roman, Viking and medieval heritage, York has much to see and do. York Minster, the Yorvik Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum head up the list. You can also take a boat trip on the River Ouse and join a walking tour.

Great family days out include Creepy Crawlies - an indoor/outdoor adventure play centre with café – on the outskirts of York. Flamingo Land at Malton combines animals and theme rides and Monk Farm near Thirsk is full of cuddly animals.

The Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington is based on a World War Two Bomber Command Station and Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum is housed within an original Prisoner of War Camp.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

I feel the site is run to strict after all you are on holiday it's not good when you can't have a wash between 11 and 12 ,and when I asked about getting into York when booking they said the bus stop was only half a mile away which is not the case it's over a mile and there's no pavement so it's dangerous.

There is room for improvement on the grass cutting front.

There is room for improvement on the grass cutting front. The area around reception and the management caravan is kept nice, however the rest of the site is not currently maintained to the standard it used to be. The site is a lovely one, just let down by some inconsistencies.

Arrived on Saturday of a bank holiday weekend. Site was very busy. We had booked a jumbo pitch but could have managed with a normal size pitch. Wardens were helpful when pitching. Facilities were spotless and showers were the best we have seen. Great parent washing area where you could alter the temperature of the showers which was a great addition! Only downside is nobody patrolled the site for noise late at night - but not a major issue. Great pubs nearby and a great little takeaway too(pizza-world) would definitely go back.
