Overview

Camping near York doesn't get much better than Sheriff Hutton.

The historic city of York is just a few miles from our pretty Sheriff Hutton Club campsite and the North York Moors and the coastal towns of Bridlington and Filey are within easy reach.

Our immaculate, well-manicured tree-lined campsite offers a tranquil base from which to explore the local area. It has 90 grass and hardstand pitches and modern facilities including a parent and child wet room with a baby change station, sink, top and tail bowl, toilet and shower. There are also laundry facilities, a small play area in the centre of the site with swings, a slide and climbing section and a small site shop.

The local village of Sheriff Hutton has a post office, two charming pubs, castle ruins and a point to point race course.

With Roman, Viking and medieval heritage, York has much to see and do. York Minster, the Yorvik Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum head up the list. You can also take a boat trip on the River Ouse and join a walking tour.

Great family days out include Creepy Crawlies - an indoor/outdoor adventure play centre with café – on the outskirts of York. Flamingo Land at Malton combines animals and theme rides and Monk Farm near Thirsk is full of cuddly animals.

The Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington is based on a World War Two Bomber Command Station and Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum is housed within an original Prisoner of War Camp.

Close to attractions, not to far from the city of York but far away to enjoy the Yorkshire county side. There was so much to see and do we will have to have another visit. The site itself is quiet and great for families. The shower and toilet block is situated in the centre of the site and kept very clean and tidy. Wardens and assistant wardens on hand to help or give information. There is a small shop to get the basics. For the children it is a safe place to play well away from main roads and has a small play area which was well used. On Saturday night a fish and chip van visits the site and they are lovely. Close the the A1237 which is a busy main road into York if you drive there but there is park and ride at monk cross where there is also a retail park. Some of the places of interest include, the lavender farm, the air museum, rydale folk museum and attractions in York City. We will be coming back next year. Thank you to all the staff who help us when we had a small accident, they were very helpful and supportive.

We had a brilliant stay at this site, the staff were very friendly & helpful on arrival. The pitch was perfect, plenty of room for caravan & awning, with car at the side and very level. The facilities were always clean & tidy, no matter when we used them. The site was a few minutes drive to the nearest village which had two pubs, a post office and a Tesco express - which we found really handy! It's roughly around a 25min drive into York if you feel confident driving in the city, or there are a few park & ride car parks around 10mins from city. Plenty to keep you occupied within York and surrounding towns. It says not to use Satnav to access the site towards the end of your journey, but we used ours and it took us right to the site without any problems. All in all we had a great week with excellent weather for the beginning of October, would definitely recommend and I'm sure we will be back at some point next year!!!

York was great, my husband and I really thought the Park n Ride facilities were fantastic, we used them quite a bit so much easier than trying to find a parking space in the towns and cheaper in some cases, Malton was very quaint, and Whitby was beautiful, lots and lots of steps though, but well worth a visit
