Overview

Camping near York doesn't get much better than Sheriff Hutton.

The historic city of York is just a few miles from our pretty Sheriff Hutton Club campsite and the North York Moors and the coastal towns of Bridlington and Filey are within easy reach.

Our immaculate, well-manicured tree-lined campsite offers a tranquil base from which to explore the local area. It has 90 grass and hardstand pitches and modern facilities including a parent and child wet room with a baby change station, sink, top and tail bowl, toilet and shower. There are also laundry facilities, a small play area in the centre of the site with swings, a slide and climbing section and a small site shop.

The local village of Sheriff Hutton has a post office, two charming pubs, castle ruins and a point to point race course.

With Roman, Viking and medieval heritage, York has much to see and do. York Minster, the Yorvik Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum head up the list. You can also take a boat trip on the River Ouse and join a walking tour.

Great family days out include Creepy Crawlies - an indoor/outdoor adventure play centre with café – on the outskirts of York. Flamingo Land at Malton combines animals and theme rides and Monk Farm near Thirsk is full of cuddly animals.

The Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington is based on a World War Two Bomber Command Station and Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum is housed within an original Prisoner of War Camp.

Just come back from spending 9 nights here with our 2 children ( age 3 & 8 ) this site is spotless and the facilities are very clean ! There is no rubbish and noise is kept to a minimum .... the washing facilities and dishwashing sinks are fab .... we were greeted by the owners Steve and Karen who were lovely and welcoming and Karen even telephoned the local pub to see what time they served food till .... Had some wonderful days at Castle Howard .. York Minster .. Railway Museum ... York .. we also went to York races on the Friday which was brilliant ( the kids loved it ) we would recommend eating at the The Ship which is in Strensall ( about 3 miles away ) lovely food and a welcome smile ! The park and ride is well worth using as its £5.60 for 2 adults and children are free, we went from Monks Cross and Rawcliffe on 2 seperate days. The site is key coded so you can only get in with a code and the pitches are extremely spacious ( we were on number 15 corner plot with loads of space ) all in all a great caravan site .... please don't hesitate to book here and we will definitely go back in the future !

This is a lovely campsite its suitable for families as well as couples, there is plenty of space with quiet pitches if you want a little privacy. It is in the countryside but close enough to York and other attractions like Eden camp also a bit father is Scarborough. We took our two Grandsons aged 10 and 6 who thoroughly enjoyed the campsite and the freedom they had, only thing the play area is more for the under 5s. The staff couldn't have been more helpful as we opened up our folding camper there was a wasps nest inside they soon had it all sorted without a lot of fuss even returning later to make sure we were alright, for this we cannot thank them enough.

We booked the day before & got the last 2 electric pitches and they managed to get us both side by side. The site is immaculate, roomy pitches and the facilities spot on. Even though the site was virtually booked up there was hardly anyone using the showers/toilets at any time so never had to queue and they were always clean. About a mile from the village and it is in the countryside so very quiet and peaceful. We were there for the triathlon at Castle Howard and they very kindly allowed us our pitch until 2pm so we didn't have to pack up early. Recommend the pizza delivery service! Would definitely stay here again.
