Overview

Camping near York doesn't get much better than Sheriff Hutton.

The historic city of York is just a few miles from our pretty Sheriff Hutton Club campsite and the North York Moors and the coastal towns of Bridlington and Filey are within easy reach.

Our immaculate, well-manicured tree-lined campsite offers a tranquil base from which to explore the local area. It has 90 grass and hardstand pitches and modern facilities including a parent and child wet room with a baby change station, sink, top and tail bowl, toilet and shower. There are also laundry facilities, a small play area in the centre of the site with swings, a slide and climbing section and a small site shop.

The local village of Sheriff Hutton has a post office, two charming pubs, castle ruins and a point to point race course.

With Roman, Viking and medieval heritage, York has much to see and do. York Minster, the Yorvik Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum head up the list. You can also take a boat trip on the River Ouse and join a walking tour.

Great family days out include Creepy Crawlies - an indoor/outdoor adventure play centre with café – on the outskirts of York. Flamingo Land at Malton combines animals and theme rides and Monk Farm near Thirsk is full of cuddly animals.

The Yorkshire Air Museum at Elvington is based on a World War Two Bomber Command Station and Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum is housed within an original Prisoner of War Camp.

This is a very good and clean site.

This review is for Sheriff Hutton

This is a very good and clean site. Everything was spotless! Small playground for the younger kids. The ONLY thing I would say is the site needs a BIGGER Entrance Board as it is easy to miss. There is a Large Shopping Centre within 9 miles with Top names and an Asda plus others. This is the First Club Site we have been to as we are New to Caravanning but we will be back.

We had not visited the area before so didn't know what to expect.

We had not visited the area before so didn't know what to expect. The site was quite close to the road but the noise didn't bother us at all. The site is flat and very well kept, We like nice views which this site didn't have but you can't have everything. My non-driving husband likes a newsagents close by but the nearest one was more than a mile away in Sheriff Hutton. The children's play area is small and suitable for younger children so older children could find the site a bit boring I suppose. Saturday's fish and chip van is highly recommended even if a bit pricey. We ran out of gas on the last day so had a takeaway pizza which delivers to the site - again highly recommended. York is only a short drive away - there are several park and ride areas which I understand are good but we were happy to potter about without going into York.(York races were on at the time) All-in-all, we had a lovely break and will return next year.

Very impressed with the shower block, fairly new, Very clean, one of the staff was actually cleaning the showers late evening! Only one enclosed sink area which was maybe not enough for campers with small children but plenty of sinks, showers & toilets. Fish & chip van visited once a week which was handy as there were no shops close by. A lovely small site.

We've just come home from a lovely 4 nite stay at Sherriff Hutton site.

This review is for Sheriff Hutton

We've just come home from a lovely 4 nite stay at Sherriff Hutton site. Site assistants were very welcoming and couldnt help enough. The play area was simple but just enough for our toddlers and a great meeting place for all the kids on the site. Even though it ws full over the bank holiday weekend, it still seemed quiet and peaceful. The facilities were very clean and the family room although we didnt need to use it was well equipped and very clean. All in all a great site, 25 mins from the centre of york.We will definitely go back :-)
