Overview

Between the North York Moors National Park and the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this peaceful campsite welcomes you to Yorkshire.

Our pretty Slingsby Club campsite sits between the rolling Howardian Hills to the south and the Vale of Pickering and the North York Moors National Park to the north making the campsite a popular base for walkers.

Situated in a peaceful location on the edge of a village, the level, well maintained campsite has modern facilities including a laundry, dish washing area and a well equipped amenity block.

There are plenty of walking opportunities direct from the campsite. Slingsby village, for example, is within walking distance and surrounded by an intricate network of lanes, footpaths and bridleways.

The area is dotted with magnificent historic buildings. Take your pick from gems including the magnificent 18th century Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall, Newburgh Abbey, Helmsley Castle and Rievaulx Abbey.

Three of the area’s most popular attractions are within 15 miles of the campsite. There’s Flamingoland with its wild animals and wilder rides, the modern history theme museum – Eden Camp and the North York Moors Railway which runs a scenic route from Pickering to Whitby.

The medieval city of York, around a half hour’s drive away, is famous for its city walls, minster and a variety of museums. The city’s Park and Ride scheme accommodates motorhomes.

There are only Club Service pitches so the fee of £3.85 will apply at all times.

We camped 75mtrs approx from a sewerage farm, it gave us no problem.

We camped 75mtrs approx from a sewerage farm, it gave us no problem. We had good weather too, which didn't affect our comfort. There are walks from the camp itself. One walk, along what was a railway line, to a Tea Room (closed Mons & Tues) in Hovington. Which also has a farmers market Saturday morning. All in all, we had a lovely week there. Us old'ns. Kids would need to take their own entertainment.

A great welcome from the staff, set at the end of the main road in the village next to open countryside. The site is long and narrow and you have a choice of open fields on either side. Excellent facilities and the pitches are nicely laid out and chose a plot closer to the wifi zone nearer to the shower block. Spent several days on easy cycle paths around the site and also some good walks. Will definitely revisit again soon. Enjoy.

Lovely warm welcome but we had a tricky pitch due to our motor mover almost catching a tree stump, so wardens Geoff and Dave made an impromtu ramp. This site had a good mix of caravans and motorhomes. We saw mainly elderly campers and there were a lot of campers with dogs, although they were well behaved and hardly heard a `bark. On Friday night we went to local pub, The Grapes and were told when we tried to order that there would be no chance of a meal as they had a large table booked in that night, so it would be advisable to book if you`re thinking of going. If your looking for excitement, look for another site but if you`re after a peaceful break this will be perfect.

The site is in a lovely village, the facilities were clean, but do not opt for the jumbo pitch or furthest pitches from the facilities, as these are next to the water treatment plant, which nobody has mentioned. Thankfully the weather was mixed, but as soon as the sun came out so did the flies, which made it impossible to eat outside. Also there was the smell, not all the time, but this spoilt what would have been a lovely site. The site would also benefit from a play park for the children. If you want to get away from it all, this is the ideal site, as the WIFI is only limited to a few caravans near the site office, and there is very limited mobile phone coverage; the plus side is that you have to go to the lovely local pub/play park for internet access. The site is well positioned for the seaside and also the attractions of York and Castle Howard, which is really impressive as you drive down.
