Get away from it all at this peaceful, no-frills campsite in the Shropshire countryside.

The peaceful setting of our Ebury Club campsite is the perfect base from which to explore the local countryside, towns and villages of Shropshire.

The area is steeped in history. In fact, pitch up at Ebury Hill and you’ll be camping on a little piece of history – nearly 3,000 years ago the area was an Iron Age hill fort.

Today the site provides a peaceful haven for campers and an abundance of local wildlife including squirrels, badgers, rabbits and birds. The campsite is split over two levels and boasts an attractive fishing lake stocked with carp, perch, roach and tench. And walkers will appreciate the many walks through fields and woods from the site.

Shropshire is steeped in history. To find out about the area’s historic past a trip to Ironbridge Gorge is a must. Blessed with not just a beautiful setting, this is an UNESCO World Heritage List site and a monument to the Industrial revolution. Ten award-winning museums bring the Victorian era to life through its many interactive exhibits and displays.

One of the country’s largest Roman settlements at Wroxeter is another place where you can step back in time or how about a trip on the Severn Valley Railway? Steam-hauled trains run between Bridgenorth and Kidderminster.

Other popular attractions include the RAF Museum at Cosford and Telford with its many shops and leisure options.

Please note, because of restrictions relating to the historical significance of this campsite, it has no toilet or showers (other than a toilet for backpackers only, see Worth Noting), so you will need suitable facilities in your unit.

As new members of the C&CC we were not aware of various discounts and rules. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly and could not do enough to make our stay more pleasant. When booking in they made sure that we had been set up correctly on line and also they made us feel welcomed. The warden took us for a walk and showed us the pitches and gave us a potted history of the site. They were also very prepared for any request for information we had and used tear off strips to cover the location of shops, caravan accessory shops, etc. something that other sites could take on board. The site is secluded and had great views of the surrounding countryside. A site that we will certainly make sure to return to.

It is such a shame that numbers have fallen so sharply this year; hardly surprising when the prices more than doubled. An increase was needed. It was too cheap before. But the increase was excessive.

This review is for Ebury Hill

We stayed on this site last week for 3 nights. We have been here many times over the last few years and we were very happy with our grass pitch [no.16] which required no levelling at all. The facilities, although limited, were kept in a first class condition. The holiday site managers were very welcoming and helpful. We must say however, that we were surprised to find the site so empty. Usually,on our previous visits the site has had a much higher occupancy, and it was a shame to see such a lovely site so underused. We think this might have something to do with the pricing structure because it is quite expensive for a limited facility site. However, having said that we will certainly visit again because we love the site and there is so much to do and see in the area.

This was our second visit to the site, the first being only two weeks ago, over August bank holiday. On that occasion we had asked for hardstanding and were pitched in the lower "quarry" area of the site. This time we asked for a grass pitch and we were given a choice of pitch on the higher level. Both had good TV and mobile phone reception, but we much prefer the higher pitch for the view even though we needed levelling blocks. There is a very good wooded area around the site for dog walking ( on lead) and the warden told us about a farmers track about half a mile long, fenced and gated at both ends where they can run off lead. It's through the gate at the right hand side, at the top of the site, about 50 yards along the field edge, (mind the sheep) and through the kissing gate to the left. Alternatively, you can continue along the field edge through the next field, to a weighted gate into Abbey Woods, a little overgrown at first but the path opens up further in. Haughmond Hill is worth a visit, it may be a bit of a trek on foot from the site, but there is a car park (1 charge) and you can even park your motorhome there too. There is a refreshment hut and picnic tables, paths through woodland and a 180 degree view over the Shropshire hills from the highest point. The site is well kept, has very friendly wardens and campers, a lot of them have been going there for years, always a good sign. The fact that there are no toilet and shower facilities hasn't put us off as there is a washing up area near reception, a motorhome service point and water, grey waste and chemical disposal areas about the site. As the site is only just over an hour from home and such a gem, I'm sure we will be back.
