Overview

    Site within National Park

A great base to explore the Peak District and the Potteries.

Our Leek Club campsite located in the Staffordshire Moorlands and with the southern Peak District within a stone’s throw will appeal to those campers who enjoy nothing more than a good walk to take in the local area.

Bordered by trees and some sheltered pitches, the site has a good range of facilities including two facility blocks, a small children’s play area and dog walk.

A little north of the campsite the Roaches, a craggy outcrop of rocks, provides a playground for climbers while its miles of paths satisfy seasoned ramblers. The villages of Upper Hulme and Meerbrook populate the area. The latter has a reservoir, Tittesworth, which is within walking distance of Leek campsite. There are pleasant walks around the shores and at the north end bird hides. There is also a Visitors Centre, adventure playground and picnic area.

Another great way to enjoy the local scenery is to take a ride on a train. South of the campsite the Churnet Valley Railway wends its way through beautiful countryside known as Staffordshire’s “Little Switzerland”. Hop on board a steam train at The Foxfield Steam Railway, Stoke-on-Trent, and enjoy a five-and-a-half mile journey through north Staffordshire countryside.

Leek campsite is also well placed to explore the Potteries. Stoke-on-Trent south of the site has several museums and galleries dedicated to the ceramic industry which gave the Potteries its name.

Other days out from the campsite include Alton Towers theme park, Chatsworth House, Blackbrook Zoological Parkand the National Trust’s Ilam Park near Ashbourne.

Worth Noting

50 all-weather pitches available, however we require awnings to be pitched on hardstandings, therefore steel pegs may be required. Some pitches are sloping and chocks are required. No area for ball games.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available. Prices.

Eat Local

The Wednesday market I Leek sells local produce and there are monthly farmers' markets in Bakewell, Matlock, Buxton, Castleton and Whaley Bridge.

Recently had 20 WildAx van owners rally, and found the site good, especially the hot showers and clean facilities, and proximity to decent food at local pub. Would benefit us if it had a club room, as others do. Resent having to pay for wifi, as the C&CC is well aware! Really time this was sorted. Leek is lovely and very interesting, but hard to get to by public transport, very limited bus service, every 3 hours, so used taxis a lot. Good walking from the site, with a choice of routes. Site staff are very friendly and helpful. Happy to return at any time!

Would use site again. Great for walking. Good pitch size. Only downside was the Local pub which was not dog friendly & did not allow you in with muddy boots even though it is in the middle of good walking country.

Needs all the hardstandings tarmacing as we trailed through mud going backwards & forwards...

Needs all the hardstandings tarmacing as we trailed through mud going backwards & forwards from the caravan. There wasn't sufficient lighting at night around the site, couldn't see very well when walking round site at night. The dog walk was very small & really boggy, so had to go off site.

While there we walked into Leek, around the reservoir and also visited the RSPB reserve. Our daughter and children enjoyed a few days and enjoyed a visit to Monkey world and Alton Towers Water park. We could easily have spent longer exploring the area and would certainly consider a future visit.
