    Top site for fishing

Horsley Club Site, near the North Downs. Perfect for fishing, relaxing, walking.

Our tranquil Horsley Club campsite lies just north of the beautiful Surrey Hills, popular for the network of footpaths that criss-cross them, including the long distance North Downs Way.

Horsley is a peaceful campsite tucked away down the end of a quiet lane. Although large, with some 130 pitches, campers are able to sit back and relax here – either watching the abundant wildlife – foxes, deer, rabbits and ducks are all regular visitors - or casting a line into the picturesque Horsley Lake – the campsite’s centre piece. Day fishing is available here.

The campsite has clean, modern facilities. There is a new children’s play area, dog walk and a recreation room.

The Horsley Jubilee Trail, starting at Horsley station, is a nine-mile circular walk taking in woods, historic buildings, great panoramas and a well-earned refreshment stop at a traditional English pub. You can enjoy more views of the area from Newlands Corner, a popular beauty sport in the Surrey Hills, just south of the campsite.

For days out visit the National Trust’s Polsden Lacey, a stunning Edwardian Manor House near Dorking, RHS Garden Wisely the flagship garden of the Royal Horticultural Society, and its huge plant collection, Bocketts Park Farm near Leatherhead and the Brookland Museum - home to Concorde - in Weybridge.

The theme parks Chessington World of Adventure, Legoland and Thorpe Park are all nearby.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Good and not so good points. Good: pleasant location with a nice lake if you are a fisherman. As mentioned places to visit nearby. Not so good: not all site wardens seemed particularly helpful. The facilities block needs updating, showers, curtains, washing up areas all poor compared to others we have been to. General rubbish has to be taken all the way to the front of the site. Security gate number changes weekly, which is fine as long as you are told! Taking everything into consideration had a nice stay.

This was quite a plain ordinary site and certainly not worth the premium price.

This was quite a plain ordinary site and certainly not worth the premium price. Toilet blocks nice and clean. Lovely lake for those who like fishing. Nice playground. But, it's in the middle of nowhere so nothing much to do around although it is good for getting to places like Chessington. The bins are at reception which is quite a long walk so car needed to empty bin bags. The biggest problem though was our neighbour who is on a seasonal pitch. We strongly advise that you ask not to be put on pitch 31. We parked our car on our pitch and when our neighbour returned he parked on our pitch and pulled right up to our car so we couldn't get out. There was no intention to discuss why he was parking there at all - he just did it. I challenged him politely and he whittled on about how long he had been a member and how he had been parking there since March. This was despite him having a lot of space on his pitch. As he has a seasonal pitch, the wardens didn't really want to do much about this and so we had to put up with his unsightly 4x4 on our grass at the front of our caravan for the whole stay.

Firstly the difficult things : the site entrance was very narrow for modern caravans and particularly on exit. The shower blocks could do with some refurbishment but were clean and ample hotwater. Wit nearly all pitches in use at the weekend, the number of showers and WCs could be increased. With young visitors the great attractions of feeding the ducks and fish and the splendid children's play area were much appreciated. Staff were efficient and friendly as always. A very convenient site for visiting our daughter in Guildford and we may return in the future.
