Overview

A woodland park in Wiltshire

Set in the Savernake Forest, Postern Hill is a peaceful campsite with sheltered pitches and plenty of wildlife to enjoy - keep a lookout for the deer. The surroundings are perfect for leisurely strolls on gentle, flat forest trails. Set in the 4,500 acre Savernake Forest, the campsite is ideal for exploring historic Wiltshire, with Stonehenge, Avebury Stone Circle and Salisbury Cathedral all within easy reach. Nearby there is the Westonbirt Arboretum, with its magnificent displays of trees and shrubs, Longleat Safari Park or the National Trust village of Lacock.

Full of ancient registered oak, beech and sweet chestnut trees, this Forestry Commission woodland boasts the largest beech avenue in the UK and has even received SSSI status due to the diversity of wildlife which can be seen there.

This review is for Postern Hill - Wiltshire

This site has so much potential, the woodland is beautiful and the staff friendly and welcoming. There were little activities available to purchase at low cost for the kids such as trails. However the number of units on site and over use has left the site a bit bare and boggy and the 3 toilets were not very clean and too busy. The "pitch anywhere you like" and number of units means it is hard to find a peaceful spot. I so wanted to love this site but the cost for one night with discount for the facilities and state of the site with the number of campers packed in is just not worth it. I paid 18 for one adult and 1 child for one night, that was at the high end of all the sites we'd stayed at during our trip and by far the worst facilities. Location wise it was good for us as we were heading back from Wales and it is not far from the M4. Not sure I'd use it again though.

Great welcome when we arrived even though the wardens were having their lunch, nicest welcome in all 10 years of camping.Really helpful, nice people, able to choose our pitch, bonus!Lovely quiet place, lovely 20 minute walk into town.Nice town with plenty of great places to have lunch. Only down side was that it rained on and off the whole time but then that's just good old English weather. Will definitely return when the sun shines !!!

Arrival / check in fine.

This review is for Postern Hill - Wiltshire

Arrival / check in fine. Offer of help to pitch up was very welcomed, no issues with the team at all. Just the whole thing of pitch up where you like, makes it very haggled piggaldy, I would personally prefer a set out pitch. The toilet block certainly needs attention. They were on the two occasions I visited then in need of a clean / smelly. The location is superb for being in the forest, brilliant for dog walks or children to climb trees. I feel it's very expensive for what you get. Sadly I would not stay there again.

Visited this site many times over many years, very disappointed on last visit was welcoming on arrival no complaints but after that seemed not so friendly. Have new wardens which is fine but you never see them around the site, toilets dirty and really need knocking down and starting again. Seemed less permanent caravans there and the ones near the toilets everytime I visited the children just running in out of the toilets constantly. Site seemed very run down, used to have bits and pieces to buy in reception/shop not anymore which was a shame. Sadly won't be visiting again as not value for money at all.
