A lovely campsite located on a canal with a number of attractions nearby.

Our Devizes Club campsite is a lovely quiet and secluded retreat by the side of the Avon and Kennet Canal in the heart of Wiltshire. The surrounding countryside, ideal for walkers and cyclists, is where you’ll find some of the UK’s most significant prehistoric sites including the iconic Stonehenge and Avebury Stone circle.

This well-kept, tree-lined campsite provides 90 pitches, some lined by hedging to give a more private feel. In addition to the amenity blocks, campers can expect a children’s play area and playing field and a large dog field.

You can walk or cycle into Devizes from the campsite via the spectacular Caen Hill flight of 29 locks or catch a bus from the stop a five minute walk from site. Buses also operate to Melksham, Bath and Bristol from here.

This bustling historic town has weekly general and collectors' markets and a regular farmers' market. Wadworth's Brewery is here. See its famous shire horses make deliveries in town. Sample the ales at the visitor centre where tours of the brewery and stables can be booked. Also in the town is the Wiltshire Heritage Museum where you'll find Britain’s best Bronze Age archaeology collections. The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust Museum alongside the canal is where you’ll discover the fascinating story of this delightful waterway.

Further afield Longleat and its 900 acres of parkland is a great family day out.

Site is well kept with a good shower block which was spotless, there are not many fresh water taps on site so fill up before you pitch up. The Three Magpies pub just outside the gate has a good selection of food and excellent ales fron the Wadworth brewery in Devizes. We walked along the canal into Devizes which took us about one and three quarter hours at a leisurely pace. We will definately go again.

This is the second time we have visisted and it did not disappoint.

This is the second time we have visisted and it did not disappoint. Situated next to the Kennet and Avon Canal and with a pub within 50 yards that serves good food (Only choose the large Sunday roast if you are really hungry - the small one is still large by most standards). We tend to eat out at lunch times and found several good garden centres nearby, the best being Lowden at Shaw just the other side of Melksham. Almost Michelin Star food at pub prices - delicious. Great base for exploring this part of Wiltshire or just enjoying the local walks. Only noise was from birds, the occasional thrum of the engine of barges going by on the canal, a couple of RAF planes, and possibly the sound of tanks on Salisbury plain - we never did find out what the booms were. Camp shop is also quite well stocked with essentials - useful when we ran out of sugar!

A nice site with a handy bus stop outside.

A nice site with a handy bus stop outside. Even more handy was The Three Magpies pub which did decent bar food, including more than one veggie option ! Top tip the pub fills up very quickly at the weekend so you will need to book a table to be on the safe side (if you want to eat). The Site-motorhome service point just outside the main gate, so fill up before you go in.A big negative is the closure of the one toilet/shower block at the ridiculously early 10.30am until 12pm. Now why this has to happen is beyond me,so many of the CCC sites do the same or similar.Don't the club feel 'we' deserve a lie in and a lazy morning? We will go to this site again when the weather is better to make the most of the nearby canal walk. I did think the water points seemed few and far between and unless I missed them the bins are outside the main gates ?
