A lovely campsite located on a canal with a number of attractions nearby.

Our Devizes Club campsite is a lovely quiet and secluded retreat by the side of the Avon and Kennet Canal in the heart of Wiltshire. The surrounding countryside, ideal for walkers and cyclists, is where you’ll find some of the UK’s most significant prehistoric sites including the iconic Stonehenge and Avebury Stone circle.

This well-kept, tree-lined campsite provides 90 pitches, some lined by hedging to give a more private feel. In addition to the amenity blocks, campers can expect a children’s play area and playing field and a large dog field.

You can walk or cycle into Devizes from the campsite via the spectacular Caen Hill flight of 29 locks or catch a bus from the stop a five minute walk from site. Buses also operate to Melksham, Bath and Bristol from here.

This bustling historic town has weekly general and collectors' markets and a regular farmers' market. Wadworth's Brewery is here. See its famous shire horses make deliveries in town. Sample the ales at the visitor centre where tours of the brewery and stables can be booked. Also in the town is the Wiltshire Heritage Museum where you'll find Britain’s best Bronze Age archaeology collections. The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust Museum alongside the canal is where you’ll discover the fascinating story of this delightful waterway.

Further afield Longleat and its 900 acres of parkland is a great family day out.

We have visited the Devizes site numerous times over the last 10 years and it never fails to please and encourage us to return. Level spacious pitches and very clean toilet blocks. On arrival we were offered a number of different pitches and once we started to set up and put up our awning we thought we might have made a mistake as the pitch was bordered by hedges and overhung by a large tree - we were wrong; on what turned out to be the hottest day of the summer we were very glad of the shade and changed our mind about a possible bad choice. Two brilliant things within 100 yards of site entrance - The Three Magpies pub which serves good beer and food and in the opposite direction the Kennet and Avon canal and the towpath to walk to Devizes via the Caen Flight - a series of 29 locks with a rise of 237 feet in 2 miles. Devizes is a lovely market town with supermarkets (M&S/Morrisons/Sainsburys/LIDL) as well as smaller butchers/greengrocers etc. Try the sausages and meat from Walter Rose Butchers. We visited Lacock Abbey (National Trust) which is about 10 miles from the site.

Visited before but not for a while.

Visited before but not for a while. We first went when it was newly opened/refurbished and its now a lovely mature site. The hedges which separate the different areas are kept neat and tidy. There are plenty of well looked after flower containers, giving that very welcoming first impression on arrival. The site managers were all very friendly. I love this site! Easy access with the caravan on tow. A short walk to the Kennet and Avon canal but then its a long walk into Devizes if you choose to do so, but the 21 flight atvCaen locks help you on your way. A pub at the top also helps...or a tea room almost at the top if you prefer :) Walk the other way and there's another nice pub a shorter distance along the tow path. There a nice safe area to exercise your dog off lead. There is a nice pub about 5 minutes walk from the site, that serves excellent food, but booking is essential during high season. It's also dog friendly.
