The Camping and Caravanning Club enjoys a particularly good rapport with its members. It was no surprise, then, to discover – as with the initial Tent Survey – the vast majority of contributors were Club members.
Over a third of respondents bought their tents in 2016.
As before, size of tent was the main reason for purchase – with three-four and five-six person tents the two most popular formats. Large tents (typically rated at seven-persons plus) accounted for 10 per cent of responses.
Other key reasons for purchase were: ease of erection, price, design, layout and brand reputation.
Also, as in the initial Tent Survey, the two most popular brands were Outwell and Vango. Between them, they accounted for four out of every ten responses. Again, there were responses from more than 40 brands in total, with the top ten brands representing over 80 per cent of the total.
Breaking this down further, over 200 ranges were mentioned. Outwell’s Premium Collection had the highest number of responses, helping towards family tents being the most popular single type.
Just over half of all buyers paid more than £300 for their tents (a small increase on last year’s results). Nearly two-thirds had bought one new tent since the start of 2013, 28 per cent had bought two and 8 per cent had purchased three or more.
