Caravan Insurance is not a legal requirement in the UK; however we would strongly recommend that you insure your caravan. You never know when the unexpected may happen. In 2010, around 1,250 touring caravans were stolen in the UK. Although the number of thefts of caravans is decreasing the number of thefts from the caravan is rising. Add to this the possibility of damage caused by a natural hazard or simply damaged when detached then it makes sense to protect your valuable investment.
Remember caravan insurance covers you for more than just the caravan itself. Club Care’s caravan insurance covers your caravan as well as its contents and equipment against theft, fire and accidental damage so is well worth the investment.
No, your caravan is not covered but your third party liability is covered. Let us explain. Should you be involved in road accident whilst towing your caravan and it is found to be your fault, your car insurance policy will only cover you for damage sustained to a third party and it does not cover any damage sustained by your caravan. Also in the event that your caravan is damaged or stolen when detached from the towing vehicle there is no cover provided by a car insurance policy.

This VIN and the caravan description are recorded on a Touring Caravan Registration Document, which is sent to the caravan's registered keeper. Even if you own a pre-1992 caravan, or imported your own caravan into the UK, you can still register it with CRiS yourself. For caravans manufactured before 1992 you should find the VIN or chassis number on a plate on the 'A' frame or by the door.
