Those of us of a certain vintage will recall with frustration the tinkling sound of an old-style vacuum flask as it hit the deck. These days, double stainless steel walls are the norm making insulated drink flasks, bottles and cups essentially unbreakable. Whether an item is a flask or a bottle can be a moot point. Perhaps ‘flattle’ might be more appropriate. The brand name ‘Thermos’ has become synonymous with vacuum flasks, rather like Hoover with vacuum cleaners, but I’ve chosen to consider less well-known options here.
