Climbing hills and mountains is all very well but there’s something exotic – as well as exciting – about hiking up a volcano, even though it’s hardly a more intrepid endeavour. In fact the two obvious volcanoes to climb in Italy – Vesuvius and Etna – are fairly straightforward undertakings.
