Scottish site crowned Best in UK
Best CS 2009
Rusty and Christine Taylor of Garlieston Lodge, Wigtownshire, were pleased to accept an award today from The Camping and Caravanning Club, naming them as their Best Certificated Site 2008.
The winners were chosen by Club members across the UK, who nominate their favourite sites throughout the year. Garlieston Lodge were clear winners, with the site described as ‘a wonderful place to relax’ and ‘one of the best sites we have been on in 15 years’. The Best CS competition is sponsored by Calor, the UK’s leading LPG supplier of propane and butane.
Certificated Sites are a Camping and Caravanning Club member benefit, but campers can usually join on-site. They are smaller, privately owned sites, accepting up to five caravans or motorhomes and as many tents as space allows.
Exempted Camping Committee Chairman, Bob White, says “Our congratulations to Rusty and Christine on this fantastic achievement. The site has produced the highest number of entries we have ever received, which goes some way to showing the level of service that they offer to Club members.
“Our Certificated Sites can be found all over the UK, and we are pleased to see that our members are enjoying all regions, with sites in Scotland, Wales and England being voted ‘Best CS’ over the last three years. With such a great range, it’s not surprising that more and more Club members are enjoying our Certificated Sites network.”
Rusty said of their achievement “We are very proud to have won this award from the Club, especially since this is our first full year of welcoming campers. We work hard to make sure everyone enjoys their stay, but it is very much a joint effort with the villagers, who are very friendly and enjoy meeting the campers.”
There are over 1300 Certificated Sites around some of the most beautiful parts of the UK. To find an ideal site for you, visit www.siteseeker.co.uk. To visit Garlieston Lodge, please call 01988 600641.

5-Van Site Certification - The Law:
Under the Town and Country Planning General Development Order 1977, sites accommodating no more than five caravans can be granted an exemption certificate which exempts them from the provisions of the Public Health Act 1936 and the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960.
The Camping and Caravanning Club has been granted the right to issue land owners and occupiers a Certificate to operate a caravan site for recreational purposes, without the need for planning permission or a site license.
This allows no more than five caravans or motor caravans and as many tents as space permits at any one time, to be occupied by Club Members on an authorised area of land.
