Adverse Weather Causes Cancellation of Windsor Great Park Summer of 2012 Campsite
The Camping and Caravanning Club and The Crown Estate have announced, with great regret, that the summer of 2012 campsite scheduled for Windsor Great Park has been cancelled due to the waterlogged ground conditions.
The continuation of the exceptional levels of rainfall through the spring and early summer have waterlogged the campsite location, and made it inaccessible to vehicles. It is impossible even for any of the infrastructure needed to create the campsite to be installed on site.
Neither organisation feels that it would be advisable to proceed with a campsite which would not be able to deliver a safe, comfortable and memorable camping experience in Windsor Great Park.
The Club’s Director General Robert Louden said: “We are extremely disappointed that the temporary event site has had to be cancelled especially as it was due to provide campers with a unique holiday experience of camping in Windsor Great Park during the period of the Games.
“However, the public’s health and safety is of paramount concern, therefore it would have beenirresponsible to attempt to continue no matter how disappointed we all are.”
Philip Everett, Deputy Ranger of Windsor Great Park, added: “It is regrettable that we, together with The Camping and Caravanning Club, have arrived at this decision. However, with no immediate end in sight to the prolonged wet spell, and the very obvious waterlogging of the site, this action had to be taken.
“We are fully aware of the disappointment that this will cause, however we have a duty to ensure that all visitors to Windsor Great Park have a safe and memorable experience, and we were not able to do this given the exceptional circumstances.”
All campers who have pre-booked will be offered a full refund or assistance in finding an alternative location. For more information visit the Club’s website.
