Royals Battle for Camping Crown
The Camping and Caravanning Club has seen bookings soar for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Central Weekend – and it’s sure to start a right royal rivalry between the Queen herself and her grandson, Prince William.
There has been a 50 per cent increase in the number of advance bookings for the Queen’s Bank Holiday Weekend compared to Kate and Will’s Royal Wedding in 2011.
The 2012 Spring Bank Holiday weekend coincides with National Camping and Caravanning Week (June 2-8) during which the Club is urging campers to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by pitching up and taking part in a Guinness World Records attempt!
The Jubilee-themed World Record attempt is for the ‘most people wearing paper crowns across multiple locations in the UK’ on Monday, June 4.

Guinness World Records zones will be set up on each of the Club’s 110 award-winning campsites and 20 Camping in the Forest sites with celebrity botanist and Club President David Bellamy taking part at Sandringham Club Site, aptly located within the Sandringham Royal Estate.
Unique paper crowns will be provided but the Club is encouraging campers to get into the Jubilee spirit and dress in full royal attire to mark the occasion!
Sandringham Club Site will act as the hub location on the day, with a Guinness World Records official adjudicator present to oversee the attempt and hopefully announce the record!
On-site activities at Sandringham include; Outwell tent pitching demonstrations and advice, caravan and tent decorating competitions, Ordnance Survey family map reading adventures, balloon modelling and face painting. There’s also the opportunity to be drawn by our caricaturist and even attend a nature walk with David Bellamy!
Children will enjoy the bouncy castle and slide and children’s colouring competitions – you may even spot Pom-Bear wandering around the campsite with snacks for everyone to enjoy!
Additional Jubilee related activities will also be available on selected Club and Camping in the Forest Sites on the day
The Club will also plant a commemorative tree on site at Sandringham to honour the Woodland Trust’s Jubilee Woods project.
Former Emmerdale star and winner of Dancing on Ice 2010, Hayley Tamaddon, is excited about the Guinness World Records attempt and she said: “Camping is a great way to spend time with friends and family, I love going camping in a caravan, it's so much fun! Celebrate NCCW by throwing on your crown for a right royal celebration!”
To mark NCCW, the Guinness World Records attempt and The Diamond Jubilee Central Weekend, the Club is also encouraging campers to get involved in The Big Jubilee Lunch on June 3.
National Camping and Caravanning Week is now into its 12th year and celebrates the nation’s growing love of camping, caravanning and the great outdoors.
NCCW is this year supported by Pom-Bear, The Roof Box Company, Outwell, Easy Camp, The English Caravan Company, Coleman/Sevylor, Elddis, Highlander, Go Ape, Away with the Kids, Hi-Tec Sports, Vango, Sprayway and Truma. For more information and competitions visit www.nccw.co.uk
