This June the Ultra Trail South West returns to Watergate Bay for the finish of the off-road footrace billed as the toughest in Britain. The Ultra Trail South West is a non-stop point to point race which follows the South West Coast Path from Porthleven to Watergate Bay covering a total of 100 miles.
Last year the runners assembled at Porthleven on the Friday evening and were expected to take between 20 and 34 hours to complete the race. En route to the finish they encountered over 6,500 metres of vertical ascent, the equivalent of climbing 1,000 metres beyond Everest base camp.
