Sports & Outdoors

The National Horse Racing Museum celebrates all things to do with the sport, with host of galleries devoted to its past present and future. Visitors can explore the origins of Racing, Royalty and the Classic races, displays cups, royal colours and more. The Derby, St Leger, Oaks, 2000 and 1000 Guineas are all represented with some wonderful paintings including 'Derby Day' depicting a crowd scene featuring stall holders, carriage folk at their picnic and even a pickpocket!

The visitor can even experience the thrill of riding a winner, dressing up in racing silks before weighing out and riding the Museum’s horse simulator – as used by jockeys and apprentices for practice. For the record you can then pose in front of the winner’s blanket. You could even discover how betting began gentlemen owners laid odds against each other’s horses in addition to the sums put up as matches. Today a flutter at the races is a part of racing history.
