Festivals & Heritage

The Festival is an enthusiastic celebration of Whitstable's long association with the oyster. The ceremonial Landing of the Oysters and the colourful Oyster Parade get the proceedings underway. Not to be missed is the Blessing of the Waters ceremony and the opportunity to learn the art of building grotters.
There are also  traditional family pastimes like crabbing, kite flying, chalking and Punch and Judy on offer, plus workshops, explorations and street entertainment  and, of course, plenty of opportunities to sample the famous oyster.
