This years event (The 5th year of the festival from its original roots as the Folkestone Skabour Festival) will be principally based at Folkestone’s well known concert venue The Leas Cliff Hall and will also make use of the venue’s Channel Suite function rooms, this part of the festival will operate as ticketed events. The festival also expands Into the immediate surrounding area of the Leas with FREE community areas Includings a Ska traders market on the Leas Cliff Hall roof top. In addition the Leas grass areas will see a classic Scooter Park, organised by the local Folkestone ’69 Sloths’ scooter club which again this year will feature a formal scooter clubs ‘ride out’ and plus show awards for best Lambretta, best Vespa and various other awards.

As with previous years FOLKESTONE SKA FEST will also embrace the community festival atmosphere it has become known for by encompassing many of the towns pubs, clubs and bars. These include the harbour area pubs, Gillespies, True Briton and Royal George and some of the town’s bars and music cafes including Chambers and Googies.

The initial announcement of performers is to confirm the headline acts for the first two days of the event. These are appearing on the main stage in the Leas Cliff Hall itself and are on Friday August 8th skinhead reggae legends SYMARIP featuring Roy Ellis and on Saturday August 9th one of the most important vocal harmony groups ever to come out of Jamaica THE PIONEERS. Sundays headliners plus a full supporting bill of bands and DJs for the main hall will be announced as they are confirmed.

Within the Channel Suite the Festival’s famous “Trojan Lawn” now becomes the “Trojan Bunker” and will be hosted by a top Boss Reggae Sound System with numerous name DJs making guest appearances over the weekend full details will follow as soon as they are fully confirmed. In addition this year we add a ‘chill out area’ which incorporates a food bar and more significantly “Top Deck” a second stage which is intended to both expand the number of live bands we can feature over the weekend and also allow an opportunity for newer/less established bands to appear. Again this second live stage will feature both bands and DJs details of whom will be announced in due course.

In addition to expanding our daytime offerings we are also expanding our night time offerings. On friday night the Channel Suite will host our our famous “Nite Klub” allowing full on skanking into the wee small hours and for the real hardcore party goers Saturday night will see our first all nighter especially for all the ‘Midnight To Six’ crew!!
