Enjoy the Chesterfield area on foot, discovering the pretty village of Ashover, finding out what’s so fascinating about trees, or searching out the Florence Nightingale connection at Pleasley Pit Country Park.
Take in some history as you follow Bess of Hardwick’s story all the way to Chatsworth. Tour the five halls of Holmesfield or get your hands mucky on a sensory walk around Hardwick. Get up with the larks to hear the dawn chorus, or face your fears on the Chesterfield Ghost Walk.
Start your walk with a bacon butty before treading the Cuckoo Way alongside the Chesterfield Canal, or sit down to tea and cakes before exploring the beautiful bluebell woods in the Linacre Valley.
If you’re looking for a challenge, try the Chesterfield Round Walk, a 34 mile trek through the countryside that surrounds the town. Or brave the Beast of Bolsover on a 20 mile circular hike. If that sounds all too much, try the Dronfield Round at 14½ miles, or take an evening stroll of 5 or 6 miles before heading to the local pub for supper.
Most walks are free so there’s no excuse not to join us, and every excuse to have a pint at the end of several of them. All are led by a fully trained guide who knows the history, wildlife and the best countryside to walk through (as well as the best pubs to visit) in the beautiful Chesterfield landscape.
Booking opens at Chesterfield Visitor Information Centre and online in January 2013.
