National Trust for Scotland: Priorwood Garden & Dried Flower Shop
When: 01 Jan - 31 Dec 2014
Opening hours: 10am-5pm
Website: Visit website
Priorwood is a specialist centre for the craft of dried flower arranging. The garden also includes an orchard where you can see historic apple varieties being grown organically. The Priorwood shop also sells veggies which are grown at the Harmony Garden. Priorwood is unique in that all plant material grown here can be dried and preserved, while we use an additional cutting flower border at Harmony to supplement the stock. Our flowers are picked at the optimum time and prepared by a small group of staff and volunteers using a range of methods including hang/air- drying and sand drying, a process first used by the ancient Egyptians. Visitors are often surprised how many of the plants growing in their own garden are suitable for preserving, so come and visit us - You might be surprised what you learn! In the run up to Christmas we also produce a range of traditional off the peg and made to order Christmas wreaths using traditional methods. Get in touch to find out more.
