Festivals & Heritage

The Keith and Dufftown Railway is a 17km (11 mile) line linking the World's Malt Whisky Capital, Dufftown, to the market town of Keith. It passes through spectacular scenery and offers a glimpse of the varied wildlife that lives along the route, including red squirrels, deer, buzzards and other large birds of prey. After climbing through dense pine forests, and passing along the tranquil waters of Loch Park, the railway winds through the valley of the river Isla and descends through rolling fields to our destination.

Classic rolling stock has been restored and put to work on the railway, from B.R. Derby Class 108 DMUs like "Spirit of Speyside" and "Spirit of Banffshire," to the Clayton 0-4-0 Diesel Shunter, known as "The Wee Mac." On your journey the combined Kitchen and Restaurant Cars go to make up the "Buffer Stop", which serves delicious homemade soups and freshly made sandwiches as well as a wide range of home baking. Vegetarian and gluten-free choices are available too. Enjoy a nostalgic trip on the railways.
