Welcome to Blair Castle, the ancient seat of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl. The castle enjoys one of Scotland’s finest settings in the heart of Highland Perthshire. Visit the castle and enjoy a tour of 30 rooms and the fascinating collections they contain. The Entrance Hall serves as an ornamental armoury, including targes (shields) and muskets which were used at the Battle of Culloden. See how the staircase forms a family portrait gallery, while the dining room incorporates Thomas Clayton’s plasterwork, with ceiling roundels by Thomas Bardwell showing the four seasons, and local landscape scenes by Charles Stewart. There is a stunning tapestry room and a beautiful ballroom that is still used today. Why not take a guided tour of the Castle’s maze of attic rooms and corridors, which contain many strange, wonderful and interesting artefacts that tell the story of the castle’s chequered past.
Visitors can also enjoy exploring the magnificent walled garden and peaceful wooded grove, see the ruined kirk, the red deer park and a whimsical gothic folly. Colourful peacocks roam the grounds, while Highland cattle graze in fields nearby and the native red squirrel can often be spotted amongst the branches. Children will also enjoy the castle’s woodland adventure playground.
