Maiden Castle is probably the finest hill fort in Britain and is located in the heart Dorset near the town of Dorchester. It was most likely built around 600 BC although archaeological excavations have revealed objects and artefacts dating back 4,000 years. The site once housed a Neolithic causeway, encampment and a Roman temple dating back to the 4th Century AD.
