This was our first weekend away with our motorhome and we definitely picked an excellent site to visit. The welcome was very warm and the information pack was great. The hardstanding pitch was level and the site itself was spotless. We were able to enjoy an 8 mile walk to Fingle Bridge and Castle Drogo, followed by a barbeque in the evening sunshine. The free club wi-fi was a bonus and the signal was steady enough to easily watch on demand tv. The closest pub is a bit of a walk away (about 2 miles) down a dark country lane so not something we attempted and instead enjoyed the quiet and calm environment of the site. We will definitely visit the site again in the future.

Spent an enjoyable Easter here even if the weather was cold. As per the other reviews Barry & Janet make everyone very welcome. A nice touch was watching Janet deliver Easter Eggs to the children Easter Sunday. Barry has a list of 75 Attractions within 1 Hours drive of the site so you will not be short of things to do, he's trying to get upto 100!! Good luck Barry. Worth noting is we tried the small walk form the site to Drewsteignton for a lunchtime plod only to find the local Pub closed until further notice :-(. Recommend Tom Cobley Tavern in Spreyton, its Dog friendly, a local dog even has his own chair.

A small site with helpful site managers. We stopped for 1 night on our way to Cornwall but the area is nice enough for a much longer stay. Travelling from Exeter direction it's quite a tight left turn into the site but is easily manageable if you can sweep out to the right before turning in. Travelling from the west is a very easy direct turn into the site.

This is a super site
Owners very welcoming and helpful and nothing is too much trouble
Its the gateway to Dartmoor with all that brings
There are lots of pubs and resturants within a short drive and the site has a very good info pack to enhance your enjoyment and if you cant find anything in there the owners have a very high level of local knowledge that they are happy to share
All in All
A lovely location clean attractive site with owners that are happy to go the extra mile to make your stay a pleasure
To me this is what staying on club sites should always be about

Although the weather was cold, our welcome on arrival, as always, was very warm with a friendy " welcome back" as soon as we drew up. We had decided to return to this, our favourite C&CC site, a little late in the season ( closing in a weeks time ) for our last outing before the caravan is put into winter hibernation. The facilities as ever were spotlessly clean, with the site looking very presentable and attractive despite the falling leaves, and the overcast weather. The site Managers work tirelessly to ensure that visitors have a good break, and Barley Meadow is a site that the club can be proud of. Other sites should take note. Our children enjoyed the shop, play area and games room, whilst we enjoyed the restful surroundings, and the piping hot showers, but, all too soon, after a short stay of three nights, we left, recieving a farewell wave from the site Manager, We felt relaxed and happy that our caravanning season had ended so pleasantly, and we are already looking forward to a return here again next season. Thanks once again to the Payne family for another excellent and thoroughly enjoyable stay.

The site is perfectly placed to access all areas of the National Park, whilst also being quiet enough for those wishing to relax on site. The road running alongside the site is not busy, but it is very straight and so the very occasional motorbike pierces the peace. The family running the site are probably the most friendly of all the CCC sites we've stayed on. The welcome starts at reception and continues right up to waving you off site. The site is small, but this is a plus and the facilities are immaculate. The only minor drawback is that there is no genuine dog walk on site, so you have to exercise your dog out through the entrance. This said, you are surrounded by and absorbed in beautiful countryside. The picturesque village of Drewsteignton is only a mile or so away and the Drewe Arms is a must for a meal out.

Our first camping trip for quite a few years and we had a great 4 night stay. The site is only small and very safe for children to wander freely. We travelled with friends and had pitches next to each other, which we had requested on the phone but they couldn't guarantee it, but they made every effort to ensure we were together. The 4 children (aged 7 to 9) loved the playarea and the games room. We had no problems queuing for showers or toilets, but we ensured we showered early in the morning. The shop has good basic provisions and great to be able to order warm baguettes and croissants for breakfast. Surprised that the site had free Wifi access. Visited Castle Drogo and Becky Falls, both good days out with the kids. I'm sure we'll return to the site again.

Wonderful site. We stayed for 3 nights but loved it so much we are going back in August for 2 weeks. Staff are so helpful & friendly and the site is spotless. It's not too big and you can be on the hills in 10 minutes. Great for a bit of map reading and walking the dog. We can't wait to get back there next week.

Stayed at Barley Meadow for a Wedding in North Dartmoor, and gave us the opportunity to explore for us new territory. Site very well located for this purpose, and we enjoyed a really peaceful short break. Pitches excellent size, not at all overcrowded. As other reviewers have said, although the site is dog friendly, there is only small a "hygiene" area on site, and "walkies" are off-site, starting along the edge of a not-very-busy main road; within about 100m though, are rural roads providing all the runs one could wish for. Our only negative and it IS a small one, was the size of the shower cubicles; compared with others we have used, we found them to be very small. Knocking two of them into one of their Family Showers I am sure would go down well.
Hope to come agin though, for the peace and tranquility

it was a very nice site the owners were very helpfull/nice there are just 2 things i picked up on it said in the camping book that you could take your dog which is good for dog owners there was a little bit of a grass area for your dog to go to the loo but you could see it i think that this area should have bushes around it and the other is that there was only 3 toilets and 2 showers and 1 toilet/shower together in the ladys and i think the site needs more for high seasons.

A friendly and warm welcome as we arrived. Very helpful wardens. All pitches and services were well kept, clean and tidy. The toilet/shower block could be a bit bigger, bit of a squeeze in the gents past the wash-hand basins when busy, otherwise kept clean and tidy. The site is well laid out with plenty of room on all pitches, some grass, some hard-standing. Plenty of water/waste service points, refuse and recycling points. Separate service area for motorhome waste and water point. Washing up facilities at either end of the toilet/shower block. Very close to major Dartmoor attractions. Visiting The Drew Arms Inn at nearby Drewsteignton and Fingle Bridge a must, great food at reasonable prices. Good walks around the area. On Bus route outside the site (unofficial stop) to Okehampton and Exeter. Local Fish & Chip van stops on site. Well stocked shop with essentials you may need. Newspapers can be ordered. Free WI-FI on site. Nice relaxing no rush peace and quiet get-away haven. Busy in high-season. Would definitely recommend.

Entry to the site was fairly tight with a large unit being towed ( made worse by the large van parked in the entrance ), the welcome onto the site was second to none , as I expect at all Club Sites , all the staff were really friendly and very helpful. I was given a choice of pitches in various parts of the site. The facilities on site were good, and always seemed clean. The only downside for me was the play park for the children was not very toddler friendly but the older kids on site seemed to be making the most of it !, All in all a nice site in a lovely part of the world

On entry we were met by a lovely friendly couple who showed us what sites were available and where everything was. Everything great till time to give the dogs a walk on the dog walk. This consisted of a few trees and a path the length of two sites, situated very close to the two pitches in front of it. When asking if there was a place to walk the dogs, was told there was a path 750 meters up the road. This was a busy narrow road with no verges to walk on in places. Dogs are welcome but with no where to exercise them safely on leads. We wanted to move somewhere where these facilities were available but despite feeling that this was reason enough were refused any refund for the 6 nights we still had to go. We moved on anyway.

Lovely small site on the edge of Dartmoor.
This is a franchised site, run by a family that has been running it for the past couple of years. They were extremely helpful & friendly.
The site has a nice layout - loop. The pitches are well laid out, they're a good size considering this is a small site. The site/grounds were well kept.
The site owners walked us around the site on arrival, and showed us suitabled pitches to choose from.
Nice mix of tents, tourers and motorhomes on the site.
Childrens play area in the centre of the site. Games room (pool table = table football) and information. Small but reasonable site shop.
Toilets and showers were fine - clean and tidy.
Site is a good base for visiting dartmoor, a worthy stop over for a few days or more.
We enjoyed our short stay on this site: went to fingle bridge, finch foundry (NT) and castle drogo (NT).

This campsite is in a beautiful setting on the edge of Dartmoor and the site itself is an oasis... As you drive in you get a feeling of the variety of nature on offer. There is a warm welcome from owners and staff who are also very helpful; nothing was too much trouble, helping us out with pitching, lending us pumps etc. We stayed on a grass with electric pitch next to the well tended play area which was great for our children and even if you didn't have children I can't imagine it would be a problem as it is a sensible size. The games and information room was very useful particularly as we had some rain during our stay. Toilets and facilities are well appointed and kept very clean. There is plenty to do around the site with walks, nature and places to visit, all within easy reach and some within comfortable walking distance. Added extras include availibility of warmed bakery products for breakfast daily and Fish and Chip van visiting on Monday evenings.
A great all round site. Great!

We got a very warm welcome and found absolutely kind and friendly owners, who were very helpful, although it was clear, that we would stay only for one night. The site is in good reach to the A 30 and close to a road, but absolutely quiet instead. The Dartmoor and especially Castle Drogo is in good reach.
The site is very clean and so are the facilities on the site. Although the site seemed to be quite full there were no problems with the showers like one comment before us wrote.
We surely will be back some day.

The owners were extremely friendly and helpful upon our arrival. The site itself is very clean and well maintained, suitable for all tents, caravans and motorhomes everything was easy to access and well laid out. some of the pitches are very slightly at a slope but nothing that a few pieces of wood wouldn't fix. The shop had everything you would need for a week break. The shower blocks were extremely clean and cleaned daily between 11am and 1pm, some people have moaned about there being a mop bucket, personally I think this is a good idea knowing that you can quickly clean the floor or clean it for the next person. the pot washing facilities were also clean. the playground kept my 13yr and 3yr happy for the whole week with no complaints. On the Monday they have a fish van on site, you MUST try the fish and chips, absolutely fantastic. We are reasonably new to caravanning and Barry helped out with advice around awnings and alos a broken TV. We will definitely go back.

This is a small site ran by the Payne family as a frachise and were friendly with a good knowledge of the area. The site shop is well stocked and has local produce to try. The site is close to a busy country road and you will also hear traffic from the A30.
The site is surrounded by some lovely countryside but you won't see it from the site which is walled by high trees. I would recommend this site as a base for walks/activities on Dartmoor.
There is a children's playground in the centre of the site and the site was generally kept in good order. The toilet block was always clean but the family room is unsuitable for under 3's as the water was too hot and the shower head is fixed high. The push button water switch goes off too soon.
The dog run is very small and is only for your pet to do it's business. Pitches 17-19 back onto the dog run and your rear window will look directly into the run. This should be altered as I would complain if pitched there.
The site wifi was not working at the time of staying and only covered half the site. There is little 3G signal here and only Digital TV signal which was of good strength, although I had to use my external ariel.
Whilst Oakhampton is marginally nearer for shopping, you're better going 15mins in the opposite direction to Exeter Sainsbury's. Parking in Oakhampton can be difficult. The local pub in Cheriton Bishop is good but not cheap for meals. The Monday chip van is ok but nothing to write home about.
Overall it was not a bad site & it grew on me as the week went on. However California Cross (35 miles away)is a much better site and has more appeal.

Wardens were very friendly, but we only stayed 1 out of 2 nights as facilities for dogs was very poor ie the dog walk was a patch behind 2 trees and we couldn't walk on the road with them as no pavement & too dangerous. This site is a very pleasant. We stayed for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it despite a few reservations which we found off putting.
We stayed in one of the 'grass with electric' pitches at the far end, which was pretty quiet despite the playground being close by. We arrived during a high season period mixed in with half term, so their were a fair few kids running in and around the tents and caravans, but this was never a problem as they were really enjoying themselves and were respectful.
The pitch rules were quite regimented and we were reminded around 5 times before we'd even exited our vehicle that we were to stay within the allocated space. Not a problem for us, but we did feel their was a certain militant air about the place. We felt this came across with both owners of the site.
The showers and toilets were nice and clean. A mop had been left out for the visitors to clear up their own mess but a couple of times I walked in to see muddy and grassy floors, but I think this was more to do with people being lazy rather than the site owners not taking care of things. They did close both blocks for a couple of hours each day to do a full clean, but I would have liked to have seen a bit more presence on the checks before and after this time.
The campsite runs very close to a main road but never posed a massive problem for noise. Lots of lovely birds and the occasional comical Moo from a cow in the next field is what we heard most of the time!
Overall a good site which we enjoyed and could relax in, instead of worrying about late night noise and anti-social behaviour. Mature, respectful and friendly campers all made for a pleasant time! We will definitely be visiting the area again but will most likely stay at another site with a bit more of a relaxed ownership.

Lovely site, very easy to find, and a warm welcome when you arrive. We had a hard standing pitch around the edge, excellent drainage as it poured for quite a few days.Very nicely laid out with hedges inbetween, although there didn't seem to be enough space to park the car, as we had to park it at the nose of the caravan just off the road. Being a small site we had site of the lovely play area so could see the children playing safely. They thought it was fantastic. Great swings and things to climb on kept my 12&8yr boys very happy. We also took their bikes to ride around the track on which also proved a great idea. Toilet block always seemed very clean and tidy, but I felt it was a little small with only 2 showers and 3 toilets,I was glad I had a shower in the caravan. Altogether though a really nice site that I would recommend.

Barley Meadow site, situated just west of Exeter on the edge of Dartmoor, really is one of those hidden gems you come across from time to time – if you are lucky!
All of the 63 pitches, of which 20 are hard standing with electric and 12 grass with electric , are set delightfully around a looping access road with the toilet block set to one side. This has all the usual facilities and, quite honestly, lacks for nothing. It includes hot power showers, electric razor sockets, parent and baby room, family shower room and disabled facilities.
The site shop has a bewildering array of items for sale including croissants and baguettes, all freshly baked each morning and still warm when you get them! Heaven!
Local attractions include Castle Drogo, the last castle to be built in England (in the 1930s, I believe!), Fingle Bridge, a delightful place for an afternoon cream tea, Canonteign Falls, the highest falls in England (allegedly), plus, of course, Dartmoor itself, the largest National Park in Southern England. Exeter is only 13 miles away along the splendid A30, which, incidentally, makes access to Barley Meadow surprisingly easy. But if you don’t want to drive (or can’t be bothered to pack everything away in your motorhome every day) there’s a bus stop right outside.
Janet and Barry really do make you feel at home from the moment you arrive partly due, I guess, to the fact that they actually own the site and it’s their business. As Barry explained to me, as I was buying some hot baguettes, they run the site with their customers at the heart of everything they do and consequently, everything is professionally done and, as ex-caravanners themselves, they know what people want from a site.
So, to sum up, Barley Meadow is a great site, run by great owners in one of the best and most picturesque parts of the country. Try it, you won’t be disappointed!

Only one minus point. We were put right by the small dog walk which was basically just the area behind our unit. The fragrance wasn't always pleasant and neither was the view of dogs doing their business. Units should not be so close to the dog walk, especially when we weren't dog owners. Beautiful & friendly place otherwise.

We found this site a very friendly site, the only downside was the toilet blocks/showers. For the amount of pitches on site (63) there is only 2 showers in each male and female blocks and we found that when one shower was actually on the other one just dribbled so really you could say there is only one shower working at one time which was very poor. I had to get up at 7.am to guarantee a full power shower. In all the 10 days we were there we never saw the toilet blocks cleaned even though the notice said it was shut between 11.00 and 1.00. We wont return to this site but love the area.

This is the best caravan site we have stayed at. The staff are a small and very helpful team who did everything they could to help us when we were there. No matter what time of the day, they would help.
The site has a well stocked shop and clean facilities. It's a quiet location but with a million places to visit around and I didn't want to leave at the end of the week. We enjoyed our stay there so much we're going back for 2 weeks next year, I can't wait!! Many thanks to Barley Meadow for a wonderful weeks holiday.
