Day 1 Fly to Auckland with Air New Zealand via Los Angeles – why not break
up the journey with a stopover and see the bright lights of Hollywood.
Days 3 - 4 Arrive Auckland and spend the first night in a hotel to explore the city.
Day 5 Pick up your motorhome and head across to the Coromandel Peninsula where Whitianga is your destination, calling in at Miranda’s hot springs and bird sanctuary.
Day 6 Drive to Mount Manganui calling in at Waihi, a gold mining town. Enjoy the magnificent beaches while keeping your eyes open for dolphins off the coast.
Day 7 - 8 Rotorua sits squarely on the Pacific Ring of Fire, is a great place to learn about the geothermal activity and also very rich in Maori culture.
Day 9 Head east to Gisborne where you can sample some of the fine wines produced in the area.
Day 10 Travel south to Napier and visit the art-deco architecture built in the 1930’s following a devastating earthquake. Sample the wines produced in Hawke’s Bay.
Day 11 Visit the capital, Wellington – a visit to the Te Papa museum is a must to understand the culture and history of the country.
Day 12 Follow the Kapiti Coast route to Wanganui and try an expedition on the Wanganui River
Day 13 Passing the volcanic cone of Mount Taranaki, drive to New Plymouth, known for its beautiful parks and gardens.
Day 14 Visit the Waitomo Caves and famous glow-worms.
Day 15 Go to Takapuna, a seaside resort outside Auckland.
Day 16 Return your motorhome and catch the evening flight back to London via Hong Kong. Why not spend a couple of nights in this amazing city to break up your journey.
When is the best time to travel?
We particularly recommend taking this trip in New Zealand’s spring (September to November) or at the end of the summer (February–March), so as to avoid the peak New Zealand holidays and to take advantage of better rates.
