Camping Capers this August Bank Holiday

August is a glorious time of year bursting with summer blooms, sunshine and endless things to see and do. There's no better way to soak up the summer than a camping break in your favourite corner of the British Isles.

Cragside houseGarden Walk, Dunstan Hill

They say the best things in life are free, and that's certainly true of the Cragside House Garden Walk. Join the volunteer gardeners for a guided tour of the Formal Garden and learn how Lord Armstrong experimented with the landscape. Tours take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12-1pm. After a rewarding stroll around this glorious estate, ease springs at Dunstan Hill Campsite - a beautifully maintained site just a mile from the North Northumberland Heritage Coast.

Bamburgh BayBamburgh and Budle Bay Walk, Dunstan Hill

Join an experienced guide for this superb half-day walk and learn some of Northumberland's beautiful hidden secrets. Start with a hearty breakfast before meeting at 9.30am for this 6-mile trail, which follows the rugged Northumberland coast at Bamburgh with fine views of Lindisfarne and Budle Bay. Later, pitch up at beautiful Dunstan Hill Campsite with a well-earned sundowner.

Sail and DineSail & Dine, Ravenglass

There are countless reasons to visit the Lake District, and Cumbria's Sail & Dine excursion ranks highly on the list. Hop onboard a beautiful sailing yacht and enjoy delicious cuisine matched with fine wines as you glide across Lake Windermere (Psst: Sail & Dine gift vouchers are available, so don't forget to drop a few birthday hints!) Finish up at Ravenglass Campsite, a picturesque wooded spot just a short walk from the coast - the perfect end to a perfect day.

Peddars wayPedders Way and Norfolk Coastal Path, Sandringham

Here's one to work up your evening appetite. The marvellous Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path are two separate walks that combine to create a formidable 93-mile route. The Peddars Way meets the Norfolk Coast Path at Holme-next-the-Sea as it runs from Hunstanton to Cromer, which promises spectacular scenery and landscapes. Add to the occasion with a stay at Sandringham Campsite, a delightfully secluded spot within the grounds of Her Majesty's Royal Estate.

Herne BayHerne Bay Festival, Canterbury

Spice up your August camping break with a day or more at Herne Bay Festival, a fantastic 9-day festival with over 100 events, the majority of which are free. With live music, talent shows, fireworks, stalls and entertainment galore, it's a great attraction for visitors from all walks of life. Pitch up at Canterbury Campsite, just half an hour's drive away, and enjoy a fantastic base between the cathedral city, coast and countryside.

Kent ChromeKent Chrome and Cruisers Classic & Custom Vehicle Show, Canterbury

This classic car and custom vehicle show near Faversham is a real treat for petrol heads. Rock up and spend the day admiring hundreds of classics and cruisers, complete with live music, stalls and entertainment. All proceeds go to charity, too. Re-live the day's experiences with a rewarding sundowner at Canterbury Campsite, a cracking spot just a couple of miles south of the historic city.

Murder MysteryMurder Mystery Evening- Churnet Valley Railway, Ashbourne

If you've never tried a Murder Mystery this is a great chance to get in on the act. This classic event boasts an atmospheric setting on the Churnet Valley Railway, complete with a steam train ride and a 4-course dinner. The train departs at 7.30pm from Cheddleton Station returning at 10.30pm (book via 01538 758491). As for atmospheric settings, Ashbourne Campsite in the Peak District, surrounded by miles of way-marked footpaths, is hard to beat.

Devizes Street FestivalDevizes International Street Festival, Devizes

How does the idea of a street festival grab you? This community event is nothing short of spectacular, bringing uplifting arts experiences, daring circus acts, dancers, musicians and shows right onto the streets of Devizes. There's also a tempting selection of sizzling food stalls and beer tents. Who knows? It could be right up your street. Our tranquil Devizes Campsite is just 4 miles away, occupying a fantastic spot by the side of the Avon and Kennet Canal.

Quiz Night at the MuseumQuiz Night at The Museum, Ashbourne

There are plenty of reasons to visit the Peak District, including our lovely Ashbourne Campsite - a tranquil location sitting pretty at the gateway to Dovedale. And if you're a fan of general knowledge, don't miss the fun Quiz Night at the Old House Museum. The venue itself is quite spectacular - an original Tudor dwelling oozing tales of the Peak District - and quiz contestants get a cheese and biscuit supper thrown in, too.

Steaming weekendSteaming Weekend, Devizes

When we say 'steaming', we mean the engine variety. At Crofton in Wiltshire you'll find the oldest working steam engines in the world, including an original 200 year-old coal-fired Boulton & Watt beam engine. These magnificent pieces of industrial archaeology have to be seen to be believed, and you'll get your chance over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Ease springs at the lovely canal-side Devizes Campsite, a short drive from Crofton.

Recluver TowersReculver Towers and Roman Fort, Canterbury

The medieval church at Reculver with its imposing twin towers cuts a daunting silhouette on the Herne Bay skyline. Visit for free and explore the ruined remains of the early Roman fort, with impressive views out across the North Sea. Canterbury Campsite is the ideal place to pitch up for a night or two, with plenty of star attractions within easy reach including the famous cathedral city, the seaside town of Whitstable and Belmont House and Gardens.

Hauled by a heritage locomotive, you can't help but feel like you've stepped back in time. Rock up at the magnificent Holkham Estate and enjoy a cracking day of 80s music, courtesy of pop acts Level 42, Go West, Big Country, Heatwave, Jaki Graham and Nathan Moore from Brother Beyond. Sailsbury VintageSalisbury Vintage Market, Salisbury

The lovely cathedral city of Salisbury is always worth a visit, and our gorgeous Salisbury Campsite is just over a mile's walk along the river. On your city round, pop into the Vintage Market held on the last Friday of every month, right through the summer. Browse charming antiques, thumb through pre-loved brac-a-brac stalls and take home a vintage bargain. Heavenly.
