As bank holidays go, August has to be one of our favourites at the club! The sun is still shining, kids are about to go back to a brand new school year and it’s the perfect time to wrap up the summer with a long bank holiday weekend camping trip.
For families camping with older kids there are some great activities in close proximity to our top sites which provide just the right amount of adventure and the perfect amount of family chill out time.

Bury St Edmunds Food & Drink Festival 28th & 29th
On the 28th & 29th you’ll find the Bury St Edmunds Food & Drink Festival in full swing. Those camping at Thetford Forest will be able to enjoy a weekend in the sun watching demonstrations in the cookery theatre kitchen. Chefs include James Tanner, resident chef on ITV’s Lorraine and Michelin-starred Galton Blackiston. Enjoy the sights, smells and tastes with the whole family.
Hawkeye Falconry at Pennywell 28th, Devon
Hawkeye Falconry is one of the most popular and sought after display teams in the UK and it’s easy to see why. The show, at Pennywell Farm will showcase a beautiful and varied collection of birds and you’ll get plenty of chances to talk to the team, meet the birds and take pictures. There will be two shows on the day so you can pick the time that suites you best.
Ryde Farmers' Market 27th, Isle of Wight
Every Saturday in Ryde Town Square you’ll find a fantastic farmers market from 8:30am. Pick up some local produce to cook back at our Adgestone Campsite. Stalls include Twins Gluten Free who specialise in treats that are dairy, wheat and gluten free. The Isle of Wight Bacon and The Isle of Wight Cheese Co. are well worth a visit to pick up some fantastic local staples.
Ventnor Country Market 27th, Isle of Wight
Ventnor Country Market will be held on Saturday 27th and is a 20 minute drive from Adgestone. The focus of the market is additive free food with minimal food miles which means local produce is used wherever possible. You’ll find stalls selling both savoury and sweet food, seasonal fruit and veggies and a range of crafts, knitwear and Jewellery. The fresh bread is always a real hit and you can pick up really tasty local jam, marmalade and pickles to go with it. Yum!
Newlyn Fish Festival Bank Holiday Monday, Cornwall
This year will be the 27th festival of food, fun and plenty of fish at Newlyn Harbour. The festival aims to raise funds to benefit those involved in the tough fishing industry. Tickets are £6 and under 16’s go free. Enjoy cooking demos, live entertainment and the seafood auction which will have more fish than you can wag a mermaid’s tail at!
Mini Madness Bank Holiday Monday, Devon
On bank holiday Monday the locals around Llfracombe will come out in their thousands to cheer on hundreds of Minis as they complete their annual grand tour. There will be plenty of hooting horns and flag waving throughout the day. It takes the Minis one after the other around 20 minutes to clear one area of the tour. The rally finishes on the Llfracombe seafront in the afternoon and is a true site to behold.

Fantastic Fridays at Needles Old Battery 26th, Isle of Wight
The old battery has a fantastic military history, it’s a Victorian coastal defence and secret rocket testing site perched high above the famous Needles Rocks. Needles Old Battery is well worth a visit by families camping on our Adgestone site. Lots of fun is promised for Friday 26th with five fun things to do. Normal admission fees will apply and there will be a small £2 charge for kite kits.
