Beaches in Sussex

The Sussex coastline lays claim to some of the beast beaches in Britain, and it's not hard to see why. From the big guns of Bognor Regis and Eastbourne to the quiet sandy stretches of Middleton and South Lancing, there really is something for everyone in this beautiful corner of the South East.

The Camping and Caravanning Club has two campsites within easy reach of the Sussex coastline. Our Chichester campsite is within a short drive of some of the south coast's best-equipped and most beautiful beaches, including those listed below. Or if you want to experience beach camping up close and personal, you can't beat Normans Bay Campsite - a cracking little spot that's right next to a sand and shingle beach.

Beaches near Normans Bay Club Campsite, East Sussex
Pevensey, Sussex

You can't get much closer to the sands than this. At Normans Bay Campsite you're right on the East Sussex coast, with a lovely sand and shingle beach adjacent to the site and many popular seaside resorts within easy reach. Bexhill Beach is just a short walk away while the nearby sandy spots of Cooden Beach and Pevensey Bay (pictured) are within a few minutes' drive (the latter is a historical fishing village that's known as the landing place for William the Conqueror).

Slightly further afield you'll find none other than Eastbourne - a quintessential English resort with virtually every family seaside amusement you could wish for. A pier, bandstand, promenade, gardens, rockpools - you name it, Eastbourne has it, while nearby Beachy Head boasts the UK's highest chalk sea cliffs with its own distinctive lighthouse and knockout views.

To the west you'll find the family-friendly beaches of Hastings and St. Leonards, a fabulous stretch of coastline boasting clean sands and shingle with plenty of amenities in the seaside town of Hastings.

About Normans Bay Club Campsite

normans bayTalk about a beach camping holiday! This superb site places you smack on the seafront with immediate access to the sand and shingle beaches of the beautiful East Sussex coast. Famed for the Norman landings in 1066, this corner of Britain is steeped in history - join the 1006 Way and visit the ancient sites of Battle, Hastings and Pevensey Castle.

Back at the campsite you'll find a clean, well-maintained area with around 200 pitches where a warm and friendly welcome awaits. There's a small children's play area and on-site Wi-Fi, and should the little ones fancy a kick-about, the adjacent beach is the perfect spot. Hot showers, toilet blocks, laundry facilities and a washing-up area and recreation hall with table tennis are all provided, ensuring a fun and stress-free retreat for the whole family.

Beaches near Chichester Club Campsite, West Sussex
Hayling Island, Hampshire

Start your camping holiday in Sussex with a day on Hayling Island (pictured), on the activity-packed seafront at South Hayling. Here, the West Beachlands, Eastoke and West Hayling beaches merge to form an 8km stretch of sand and pebbles, which reaches along the south coast of Hayling Island from Eastoke Point to Sinah Common.

For all the fun of the fair, head to the main Beachlands area where you'll find amusements, arcades and entertainment galore, perfect for keeping the little ones happy (and big kids too). The beach here is mainly shingle, flanked by heathland and wispy sands. There are plenty of facilities including cafes, restaurants, a tourist information office, toilets and ample parking.

ChichesterChichester Campsite occupies an ideal location from which to discover Sussex's places of interest, and many of the UK's most celebrated landmarks are within an easy drive. Head to the naval city of Portsmouth and gaze up at the lofty Spinnaker Tower or shop 'til you drop at the fantastic Gunwharf Quays. Experience a day at the races at Glorious Goodwood. Venture into the stunning South Downs National Park. You can even catch a ferry from Gosport and spend a day on the Isle of Wight.

With 58 pitches to its name, Chichester Campsite is an intimate, welcoming site that's ideal for a relaxing break. Based just outside the village of Southbourne, it occupies a pleasant spot with plenty of local amenities - not least the adjacent Travellers' Joy pub, perfect for a hearty meal or a glass of something cool and refreshing after a hard day on the beach!
