Quick guide on getting started with Geocaching

Starting off geocaching

The good news is that it’s really easy to get involved in Geocaching!

There are lots of websites that list locations and form fantastic Geocaching communities such as geocaching.com.

Setting up an account is free and you’ll find a plenty of information to help get you started. View our essential kit page to find out what you should be taking along with you.

Once you’ve set up your free account, you’re an official geocacher and can use the website or a Geocaching app on your phone to pick a geocache location. Then use either your smartphone or GPS device to navigate to it. Once you’ve located the cache make sure you sign and date the log book inside and share your find on your online account.

If you’d like to place a new geocache for others to track down you’ll need to track the co-ordinates and enter the details online for people to find it. You can hide small trinkets, toys and sentimental items for other people to find as well as the log book to see how many people have tracked your geocache down.
