Leg 2: Cannock Chase to Ashbourne on the National Cycle Network
On the second leg of your holiday, you will travel from Cannock Chase to Ashbourne. This leg of the tour has it all; beautiful scenery, quaint country villages, unspoilt countryside, plus all the hustle and bustle of the town. At just over 43 miles long, this part of the route will take approximately five hours and 30 minutes to complete.
The cycle route will take you through the heart of Lichfield city centre; an ideal place to refuel and have a look around the stunning site of Lichfield cathedral. The cathedral is over 800 years old and boasts an intriguing history, having been under siege during the civil war and restored under the reign of Charles II in the 1600’s. It is also home to a long-term display of the famous Staffordshire Hoard; the largest collection of Anglo-Saxon gold and silver metalwork ever found, anywhere in the world.
There are plenty of pubs and cafes along the route where you can stop and refuel; some of which are mentioned in the instructions.
Towards the end of the route you will reach Ashbourne, where you can get something to eat before the final part of your journey to Ashbourne Camping and Caravanning Club site, approximately four miles outside of the town.
Full step-by-step instructions of the route can be downloaded below, and the map above illustrates the route you will be taking on the second day of your holiday.
