    Overview

    Our Crowden Club Site enjoys a remote location at the northern end of the Peak District National Park.


    The area is a walker’s paradise and our campsite reflects this. From the campsite, walkers can indulge in a gentle stroll along footpaths or stride out on a stretch of the long-distance Pennine Way.

    There are plenty of places to visit from the campsite. Howden and Ladybower Reservoirs, south east of the campsite are where the Dam Busters was filmed. Or head north to Holmfirth, the town known as the location for the TV series Last of the Summer Wine, which looks out over the spectacular Holme Valley. The magnificent Chatsworth House and Chatsworth Farmyard and Adventure Playground near Bakewell are a great family day out. Just north of here is the famous plague village of Eyam. Eyam Moor above the village is great for walking. There’s more wide open space and romantic landscapes to enjoy at the National Trust’s Marsden Moor Estate north of Crowden campsite.


    Leave the peace and quiet behind and in an hour’s drive you can enjoy the shopping and entertainment options of Manchester, Liverpool and Sheffield.

    		These are jumbo grass pitches with no electric hook-up, suitable for units measuring more than 5m x 9m.


    		These are jumbo grass pitches with electric hook-up, suitable for units measuring more than 5m x 9m.


    		These are super service hard standing pitches with electric hook-up, fresh water and waste drainage, suitable for those looking for a little more luxury whilst they camp.

     

    Access and SatNav Advice

    Approach is via the busy A628, with the side road entrance being on a sharp bend.


    Worth Noting

    Camping pods are available at this campsite.

    This campsite has limited mobile phone coverage and no TV reception. If you're backpacking along the Pennine Way, and arriving on foot carrying equipment, we will always find a way to pitch you for the night.


    Eat Local

    The Bulls Head in Tintwistle serves excellent food usign only locally sourced meats and vegetables. They also offer a 10% discount to Club members. There is a Farmers’ Market in Ashton-under-Lyne on the last Sunday of the month.

    Local area

    Longdendale Trail

    The Longdendale Valley is home to a chain of six man-made reservoirs on the River Etherow. They make for some of the most beautiful views in the Peak District. The trail stretches for 6.5 miles.

    Peveril Castle

    In the idyllic village of Castleton lie the rugged ruins of Peveril Castle, one of England’s earliest Norman fortresses. Ascend to the top of the hill and enjoy spectacular views of Hope Valley.

    The Cage, Lyme Park

    Originally built around 1850, The Cage at Lyme was a hunting lodge where the ladies of the estate could watch the hunt. The tower offers views of the nearby moors and was featured as a filming location in the supernatural thriller – The Awakening.

    White Nancy

    Built to commemorate the victory of the Duke of Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo, White Nancy sits atop the Kerridge ridge. On a clear day, you can see the Snowdonia National Park from the summit.
