Visiting Highclere Castle
Highclere Castle is built on the foundations of the medieval palace of the Bishops of Winchester. It was remodelled and largely rebuilt for the third Earl of Carnarvon, by Sir Charles Barry from 1839–1842, after he had finished building the Houses of Parliament. The Castle is probably best known in recent times as the fictional home of the popular period drama Downton Abbey.
The Castle is not open all year, so it's best to check their website for opening dates and times.
