Visiting Ironbridge
The Ironbridge Gorge is a remarkable and beautiful place to visit today. It really was the birthplace of industry and many award winning museums are spread along the valley beside the wild River Severn which is still spanned by the world’s first Iron Bridge.
The Bridge
It was the world’s first bridge to be constructed solely from cast iron and a triumph of technology that emerged from the Industrial Revolution and was completed in 1777. In June 1934, the bridge was declared a Scheduled Ancient Monument and part of the Ironbridge Gorge world Heritage site.
The adjacent toll-house has been adapted to be an information centre about the bridge and surrounding area.
