A (Certificated) Site for sore eyes…

Although we’d stayed previously camped in places that are classed as Camping and Caravanning Club Listed Sites, we’d never before spent a night on a Certificated Site (CS). And what a beautiful site it was.

Nestling in the village of Shepley, near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, this CS in Marsh Lane provided a restful and handy base for our latest trip in the Xplore.

ITed looks out at the glorious West Yorkshire countryside was at home straight away, and as I’m a slim chap I can balance quite nicely, thank you very much, on the back of the bench seats, where I to
ok up my position and looked out for wildlife on this scenic CS.

What made it even better was that on the night we stayed, in early May, we were the only guests and had the pick of the pitches.

The chauffeur had a date with some old pals from his schooldays, so while he was out reminiscing, the maid walked Kizzy and me down to the village, where earlier she and the chauffeur had stopped to stock up on a few treats. It was a lovely walk on a warm, sunny evening, and made us all realise that we don’t always need the trappings of larger sites, such as shops and swimming pools.

That’s one of the great things about being a Club member. You’ve got access to a host of amazing small sites that can take up to five caravans or motorhomes not to mention tents, space permitting. So if you just want one or two nights away, they offer great value for money and peaceful surroundings.

The Certificated Site in Shepley is rural yet handy for shops and pubs in the villageThe chauffeur often complains of poor TV reception but this attractive location is almost within woofing distance of the Emley Moor transmitting station… so if you can’t get a good reception there, where can you?

We also received a very good reception from the friendly manager, and I heard the chauffeur say we’d definitely go back to this CS. The facilities were basic, with a toilet, fresh water point, Elsan point and electric hook-up, but in our opinion you’d be barking not to try it!

The only thing is, if you’ve not been before and are approaching from the Holmfirth direction, you’ll need to keep your eyes open and swing out into the road because the entrance to the site is tucked away. Once you reach the Club sign, you’ve gone past the entrance.

We have some holidays coming up, so I can’t wait to find out where our adventures lead us next. I expect they’ll be checking out a CS by the sea. But we shall see...
