Club member Colin Farnworth has travelled all over Europe as an HGV driver. But when it comes to holidays, he says you can’t beat camping in Britain with one of the Club’s District Associations, Special Interest Sections or Regions.
Colin said: “We camp on a budget because it has to fit in with the jobs the wife and I have.
“France and Spain are lovely but by the time we have paid ferry crossing and fuel from the north of England it has become an expensive holiday.
“Why bother when Anglesey and its stunning beaches is two hours away, Snowdonia is less than 30 minutes away and on a Temporary Holiday Site site it’s cheap as chips?
“I honestly believe that you cannot beat Britain and most times you do not need to travel far - there are hidden gems right on your doorstep if you take the time to look.”
Here are Colin's ten favourite District Association holiday photos:-
1. The sun going down at Freshwater Beach - Burton Bradstock THS with Loddon DA
2. The Farnworths beat Julia Bradbury to it! The top of Golden Cap, Dorset
, as featured in 'Best Walks with a View.'
3. With the money you save on the camping fees you can treat the family to a feast at Hive Beach Cafe at Burton Bradstock
4. Camping in the middle of York - York Beer and Cider Festival with Leeds DA
5. Family fun bang smack middle of the Yorkshire Dales with a great bunch of friendly folk - Austwick with Leeds DA
6. Probably the best campsite in the Lake District - Grasmere sports field with Lakeland DA. This is a brilliant site with great walking from the site in the middle of Grasmere. This one breaks the £10 per night budget but is under £15 and it would cost £7 per day to park your car in Grasmere - a bargain!;
7. A great weekend walking in the Lakes based at John Ruskin School with Lakeland DA we conquered Scafell Pike and the Old Man of Coniston!
8. Our favourite THS - Tyn Rhos at Trearddur Bay, Anglesey, with North Lancs DA. We have been returning to the island twice a year for the last seven years and never get bored.
9. A room with a view - Herons Nest, Little Budworth, Cheshire, Roch Valley DA.
10. The Fabulous Farnworth five in the Lakes
Colin added: "I could go on all day. We're already looking forward to August when we will be back at Burton Bradstock."
Have Colin's photos tempted you to give DA camping a go? Why not join in with The Big Club Get Together, a celebration of social camping held at the end of May.
While DAs are always ready to welcome new faces, the Big Club Get Together is a time when everyone is encouraged to try a meet or THS.
Many DAs organise special welcome events or barbecues for make new campers feel at home.
Check the Out and About pages of the magazine, where BCGT meets are identifed with a big 'B,' or look for a meet near you online or using the great new Out & About apps.
And here's a final word from Colin: "Try it - you will never look back. DA sites are some of the best!"
