Thanks to a weekend of unseasonably warm weather, it was time to break out the shorts again and pop the cap off the sun cream bottle.
And maybe, just maybe, there was a chance of a visit to the beach. Yes, in April. I know!
However, the fact it’s only just Easter didn’t seem to put people off visiting Scarborough’s beaches this week, including me and few team members from the Club.
The sun was out and barely a cloud was in the sky.
Our aim at Scarborough was to highlight a simple message – #campingbythecoast – and the reasons why camping close to the sea is so great, from the first spring sunshine to the last autumn rays.
In preparation for the sunny season and the blisteringly hot weather we now fully expect, Camping & Caravanning staff were out in force to help with the creation of a campsite sculpted from sand, as well as a giant 30m by 50m sand artwork.
The plan was to build the campsite while a separate team mapped out the giant drawing. Then we’d run a workshop so people could help expand the campsite.
Without giving too much away, to say we were impressed with the end result is an understatement.
We’ll be showing off all the fruits of our endeavours in the July magazine and online but to give a flavour of what we got up to check out these few photos of the Sand In Your Eye team hard at work.
We teamed up with the Yorkshire-based artists to make the drawing and sculptures possible and even ran the workshop for members of the public to learn some truly useful sand-sculpting techniques.
We’re now pretty well trained in the art of sand sculpture, so we’ll be sharing some of Sand In Your Eye’s tips in our coverage as well as some of the best places to pitch up near the sea.
