As Test Editor for Camping & Caravanning magazine I’m asked one question on a fairly regular basis – why don’t you comment on poor quality workmanship in On Test features? Unfortunately, it’s normally asked by someone who’s had a bad experience of buying a new unit.
By nature of the job, I’m not a stranger to slightly unfinished caravans or motorhomes and many of our tents are prototypes. As a result, we have to overlook some issues as there simply isn’t a production model available.
When it comes to writing up an On Test review I wouldn’t normally mention a poor workmanship issue. This is partly because we’re restricted on space and I wouldn’t want to fill a page with a niggling annoyance from a particular model that shouldn’t be representative of the finished product.
On the other hand, I suppose it’s inevitable most people won’t write to Camping & Caravanning magazine to extol the virtues of their amazing tourer. Fortunately, however, there’s an excellent way to let us know the good stuff about your latest tent, caravan or motorhome, even this late in the year, as our Owner Satisfaction Survey is still open. Did your caravan arrive in perfect condition? Was everything working in your motorhome from day one? Would you recommend your tent to others? If so, it would be good to know!
