Things to do while camping near Tintagel

You’ll find plenty of places to visit and things to do when camping in Tintagel. We’ve included a few ideas below, including exploring the supposed birthplace of King Arthur, museums to visit, and beaches worth spending the day at.

Path to Tintagel Castle

1. Tintagel Castle

The beautiful ruins of Tintagel Castle are heavily linked to the legend of King Artur. Anyone exploring this area should be aware that its position on the sea cliff means there are slopes, sheer drops and challenging surfaces to navigate. What else would you expect from the castle linked with one of the biggest legends in Britain? The remains of the 13th-century castle make a brilliant family day out. The beach below the castle, where you can access Merlin’s Cave, can be explored at low tide too!

2. King Arthur’s Great Halls

Visit this spectacular building, entirely dedicated to the legend of King Arthur. A round table and granite thrones are surrounded by some of the most spectacular stained glass windows in the world. This is a great way to visually see King Arthur's story.

3. Take on a section of the South West Coast Path

This famous walking trail offers incredible coastal views and it just so happens that Tintagel is one of the villages along the way. Put your walking boots on to take on a section of the spectacular trail.

4. Tintagel Toy Museum

For a hit of nostalgia and a chance to discover quirky toy collections, make a quick stop at the Tintagel Toy Museum. This is a great place to pick up gifts and enjoy a quick trip back to childhood.

5. St Nectan’s Glen

Of all of the waterfalls in the UK, St Nectan’s Glen has to be one of the most magical. Enjoy your journey on foot through peaceful woodland to see a spectacular 60ft waterfall cascade into the waters below.

6. Port Isaac

You may recognise Port Isaac as the traditional fishing village featured in the TV series Doc Martin. Aside from snapping pictures of spots you recognise from the show, there's plenty to do here for the day. Enjoy walking through the winding streets full of white-washed cottages, taking in activity in the harbour and making pitstops at shops, restaurants and pubs.

7. Tintagel Old Post Office

Managed by the National Trust, this 14th-century cottage is a lovely place to visit during your camping trip to Tintagel. The unique medieval farmhouse has plenty to discover and a beautiful cottage garden.

8. Boscastle

Just a short drive from Tintagel, the village of Boscastle makes a wonderful day trip away from your campsite. Enjoy spectacular cliff-top views, explore wildlife-rich woodland and stop at gift and sweet shops at your leisure

9. Crackington Haven Beach

This sand and shingle beach is nestled in an unspoilt area of the north coast, just a short drive from Tintagel. A favourite with both families and water sports enthusiasts, Crackington Haven has good nearby facilities and makes for a great beach day near sunny Tintagel.
