Coastal attractions in Swanage
For a full day of seaside fun Swanage Beach is the place to be. The clean, calm waters of the multiple blue flag award-winning beach make it a popular spot for spending the day when the weather is good. Hire a pedalo or kayak to enjoy the water, or stick to the dedicated swimming area to maximise your time on the gently sloping sand.
The beautifully restored Victorian Swanage Pier is a focal point of the town. You can enjoy fantastic views of the Jurassic Coast from the pier, stroll along the walkway and enjoy the 1859 Pier Café and Bistro.
Offering studding views of Swanage Bay, Durlston Country Park sits high on the cliffs above the town with marked walking trails allowing you to discover the local wildlife. The restored Durlston Castle holds the café and visitor centre.
Top family attractions in Swanage
- There’s nothing quite like a steam train ride on a coastal family holiday, Swanage Railway is ideally situated. There are plenty of events and experiences to book, or you can simply sit back and enjoy a ride around the Jurassic Coast.
- Monkey World rescues primates from across the world. You’ll find around 250 rescued primates monkeying around here. Visit five species of gibbon, the largest group of chimpanzees living outside of Africa, 14 species of monkey and much more.
- The Tank Museum in Bovington tells the story of armoured warfare from World War One to the present day. One of the top attractions in Dorset, this one is worth a day out to visit.
- Farmer Palmer’s is a great day out for younger kids with adorable farm animals, natural play areas and excellent facilities for parents too.
- Corfe Castle, around a 10-minute drive away, is great for all ages. Once you’ve explored the National Trust property, there are plenty of nearby attractions, such as the Purbeck Mineral and Mining Museum and Kimmeridge Bay.
