Dunbar Harbour

1. John Muir’s Birthplace

No camping trip to Dunbar is complete without exploring the life and legacy of naturalist and conservation pioneer John Muir. Visit the house where he was born, which is now a unique museum.

2. Dunbar Harbour

Enjoy sea views as you watch fishing boats bobbing in the harbour and watch out for the local seals basking on the rocks.

3. Dunbar Castle Ruins

The dramatic ruins of Dunbar Castle can’t be accessed directly for safety reasons, but they’re lovely to appreciate from a distance. Overlooking the sea, the castle was a pivotal part of history and housed Mary Queen of Scots.

4. Belhaven Bay Beach

This sandy beach is within the John Muir Country Park and where you’ll find the often-pictured Bridge to Nowhere which you can walk across at low tide. Sheltered by dunes and grasslands, Belhaven Bay Beach is perfect for walks, sunbathing, surfing and picnics.

7. Edinburgh

Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital, is around a 45-minute drive from our Dunbar Club Site. There’s so much to do while in the city, including delving deep into history at Edinburgh Castle, climbing the famous Arthur’s Seat, enjoying brilliant pubs and restaurants and shopping.

8. Foxlake Adventures

Camping in Dunbar and looking for an adrenaline-filled day out? Foxland Adventures is the place to be. Wakeboarding, zip trails, Segway safaris, open water swimming and even a cold plunges are on the cards.

9. North Berwick

North Berwick Beach

Around a 25-minute drive from our Dunbar Club Site, North Berwick is worth a visit while camping in Dunbar. The East Lothian seaside town has great beaches with views out to the Firth of Forth. North Berwick is also home to the Scottish Seabird Centre.
