Things to do in Bala

As Bala is located in Snowdonia, camping in the small town allows you to explore more of the national park. You can climb Mount Snowdon, sail down River Dee, see Aber Falls, explore Gwydir Forest Park and more.

There are so many walking trails around Snowdonia national park too, including;

If you stay at our Bala Club Site, you’ll find several walking routes directly outside the campsite. A popular route includes the town walk and a 14-mile walk around the lake using hill footpaths. This walking route can be cut short if you use the Bala Lake Railway.

Bala Lake Railway

The perfect day out for families and couples alike; the Bala Lake Railway starts in the stunning village of Llanuwchllyn, near the southern end of Bala Lake, and takes you on a journey through the beautiful Snowdonia National Park.

Whilst travelling, you’ll get to see extensive views of Bala Lake and enjoy its surrounding countryside as well as the Arenig Fawr, Aran Benllyn and Aran Fawddwy mountains.

Before heading off on your journey, or upon your return, explore Llanuwchllyn station, where you’ll find some great cafes, gift shops, a heritage centre and more.

If you’re camping in Bala with your dog, you can bring your furry friend with you, as dogs are also welcome on the railway.

Llyn Tegid

One of Wales' largest natural lakes, Llyn Tegid, also known as Bala Lake, is 3.5 miles long and incredibly popular for watersport activities. Visitors can go canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, paddleboarding and fishing. To make sure everyone is safe, permits are required for numerous watersport activities and fishing. You can purchase these from the Pay and Display machines at Llyn Tegid’s car park.

Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall

Just outside of Bala, you’ll find Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall, the tallest single-drop waterfall in Britain. Plunging 80 meters down a cliffside, the waterfall makes for a picturesque scenery and phenomenal background. Many visitors even state that they find peace and reverence within themselves whilst visiting.

If you're feeling peckish on your day out to Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall , Tan-y-Pistyll is the perfect spot to rest, relax and enjoy some tasty treats. In the summer, you can sit in the gardens and take in the views of the magnificent waterfall. If you’re visiting in the winter, you can cosy up next to the log fire and drink a warm cup of hot chocolate.
