Brecon is a quaint Welsh market town located on the edge of Brecon Beacons National Park. It’s the perfect base for exploring the park, and there’s so much to do within the town itself. Check out what you can do when camping in Brecon.

The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal has been voted one of Britain's prettiest canals, and we can see why. With the canal starting in the small town and travelling through the magnificent Brecon Beacons National Park, there’s a charming view to see around every turn.
You can begin your journey at the canals basin, located near the centre of Brecon, and row your way through the town and into the national park. If you’re bringing your own boat, canoe or kayak, please ensure you have a Waterways Boat Licence. Alternatively, if you don’t have your own boat, you can hire all types of boats, canoes and kayaks from the basin.
If you’re looking for a family-friendly activity whilst camping in Brecon, Theatr Brycheiniog is a modern theatre, arts and community venue showcasing a variety of brilliant performances all year round. Alongside their great performances, you can join workshops or classes and learn a skill or two.
With some of the best landscapes in the UK, what better place to pick up your golf clubs and go golfing than at Brecon Golf Club? The magnificent golf club sits at the edge of Brecon Beacons National Park and has nine great holes to play. Whilst camping in Brecon, explore 400 years of history at the Royal Welsh Regimental Museum. This museum is the perfect visit for anyone interested in war stories dating back to the first world war. With over 33,000 objects present, the museum takes you through a rollercoaster of emotions.
If you’re camping in Brecon during Easter and Christmas or looking for a family-friendly activity, the Brecon Mountain Railway is a wonderful adventure for everyone.
The train takes you on a scenic journey through the Brecon Beacons National Park and Pontsticill, along the full length of the Taf Fechan Reservoir, before climbing to Torpantau high.
You can visit the railway throughout the year and book a single or return ticket. Whilst travelling, you can stop off at the main station in Pant and enjoy some tasty refreshments from the tearoom or purchase some wonderful souvenirs at the gift shop.
Brecon Cathedral, built in 1093 by the Normans and transformed into a cathedral in 1923, is the Mother Church of the Diocese and offers a ministry of worship and welcome to all who visit. Brecon Beacons National Park is one of Wales’ three largest parks.
