Overview

A peaceful, spacious site in the heart of Shropshire’s Lake District. Ty Mawr is an idyllic hide away located directly on the canal, with instant access to the towpath leading to a vast array of walks, cycle paths and adventures. Whether you prefer to while away your holiday sitting back and taking in the stunning scenery, or exploring the local areas of outstanding natural beauty, Ty Mawr is the perfect place for you. It is an unusually spacious site, consisting of a large open meadow and smaller, more secluded field: at around 4 acres there is plenty of room to spread out in whilst escaping from daily life. An established site, where nature is encouraged: wild orchids grow by the natural pond and a resident owl family (chicks included) can often be spotted amongst the trees (much to the annoyance of the House Martins). Colemere, Ellesmere, Newtonmere and Blakemere are in walking, cycling or kayaking distance and the nearby towns of Chester and Shrewsbury offer a glimpse into our ancient past. Local shops are situated in Ellesmere, around 3 miles away. Chirk Castle, Powys Castle and Erdigg are also worth a visit… if you can manage to tear yourself away!
Please contact the campsite directly if you have any questions about opening dates, facilities or additional measures at this campsite.

This is a Certificated Site (CS). These select sites are small, privately run campsites that operate under the Club’s jurisdiction and can only accommodate up to 5 caravans or motorhomes and up to 10 trailer tents or tents*, unless express permission has been given by the Club to accommodate more. They range from secluded Hideaways to fully facilitated family-friendly sites, and are often found in locations where larger commercial sites are prohibited so you could be camping close to a beach or in the National Park, for example.

*Tents are not permitted on the majority of CS sites in Scotland

To vote for your favourite CS, all you need to do is fill in the online form and select which category you would like to nominate the campsite for.
