Blackmore Club Site celebrates 50 years
Easter 1970 saw the opening of “a completely new site” at Blackmoor Camp, Hanley Swan in Worcestershire.
The site was “fully equipped with toilet blocks – water flushed sanitation – and special low basins for children”, as reported in the Club magazine at the time.
The transformation from a training camp for the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers to the peaceful Blackmore Club Site we know today required significant work, which was recognised with a Countryside Award, presented by the Duke of Edinburgh, as part of the celebrations of European Conservation Year 1970.
On 27 June Blackmore celebrates the 50th anniversary of its official opening and was planning to hold celebrations to mark the occasion. We look forward to the time when we can visit again and wish the site best wishes for the next half a century.
Blackmore Club Site, along with the rest of the Club's site network, remains closed for the time being.
