Camping on a cliff-edge
It might be Britain’s most precarious campsite. Thrill-seeking campers with a head for heights can now book themselves in for a night of suspense and camp while literally hanging from a cliff face in the Lake District.
Honister Slate Mine in Cumbria’s Borrowdale Valley has just launched this vertigo-inducing 500ft-high camping experience, a porta-ledge attached to the side of Fleetwith Pike, overlooking the spectacular Honister Pass.
Activity and Events Coordinator for Honister Slate Mine, Prentice Wilkinson-Weir, said: “On a clear evening, campers will spend an unforgettable night watching the sun set over the Lake District’s stunning landscape, while enjoying an al-fresco dinner, and in the morning, our guests will all be treated to freshly-prepared bacon butties, hand-delivered by our team.”
Safety is of course paramount, so campers have to be harnessed at all times, even during the night, and the activity is naturally weather-dependant.
